What rims and tires for b body rear?
« on: July 02, 2015 - 01:50:22 PM »
I just put an early b body (66) rear and Dr. Diff kit in my car. Now I need some new rims and tires to fill out the wheel wells. What wheel tire combo are you using after making this swap? I tried a search and couldn't get what I was looking for.

Did you do the 1" or 1.5" spring relocation? Mines the 1".

Checked out your thread. You can put more rim back there can't you? An 8" rim and 295 tire. Especially with the relocation kit.

With that tire a bigger rim might be tight side to side,,,,it was perfect with the 8 ",,,,anything wider and I think it would rub on my application
For me,,,,the 8 " rim seemed to work best,,,,,
I have the 1.5" off set shackles

What tire size are you going to run,,,,,?

Doug.

I'm pretty sure it's the 1" offset but I'll get under the car and measure the spring perches to double check. I'll get back to you......

Thanks! Wow 11" is a lot of rim. Now I have to find out what's available. Pre b body rear I was running a 275/40/17 tire on a 17x9.5 rim. Kinda didn't want 18s because they make my rear drums look dumb, lol.

44" centers so that's a 1" offset.  Falken specs a 10-11.5" rim for that size tire and the tire section width is 11.8" so tire will still rub before the rim will. I didn't modify anything in the rear, it was all bolt in stuff. Now the front..... that's a different story!

With a '66 rear you can go with a 10" wide rim with 5" backspace to center the wheel in the well and have extra room for clearance. If you had a 68-70 housing, then you would need 5.5" backspace to center the wheel.

I have a '67 housing, 1" relocation, 10" wide rim holding a 12" wide tire. I've got room to spare on both the fender lip side and spring side.

What metric size are the tires? Do you have pics?

They are MT SR 26x12x15, so roughly a 305-45rx15.

For those who installed a B body rear under a Challenger did you have to cut/modify the rear valance to clear the rear spring hanger?

Anyone reuse the original rear sway bar? How did you modify it?

I'm going to install a B body Dana under my wife's 71 R/T Challenger to try and get those rear 10" centerlines under the car.

Nope didn't touch a thing , it was all a bolt in deal. As for the rear sway bar I have the Hotchkis rear bar so it fit with no issues at all ( it bolts on the housing. )
