Installing a clutch engage safety switch?
« on: May 22, 2005 - 05:03:23 AM »
When I hit the track a few weeks ago for a test and tune day I had an issue going thru tech. The inspector checked everything out the car and as usaul everything checked out OK.Then he asked me to try and start the cat in gear without the clutch pedal pushed in and of course the car lurched forward.I don`t know when they started requiring a clutch safety but they had never checked for it in the past.Obviuosly my `72 did not come with one frome the factory so they let me run that day but told me I need to have one when I come back.I figure I can just wire a brake light switch to the neutral safety circuit of the relay.Has anybody else done this?

never heard of that either but I'd just go to radio shack and get a nominally open push button and make an "L" bracket bolt it to the floor so when the clutch is all the way down it pushed the button then run the wire from the ignition switch to the starter relay thru it . then when you arent racing you can bypass it till the next time kinda like plug and play ...plug it in and go play the rest of the time the hel with it

I have the same problem - at this point it's just a lame excuse for me because I have been too lazy to fix it.
When ever people ask what my car can run I have to reply "I would guess...."  :bs:

Please let me know what you use and how it works out!
