Or you could just by this real AAR for $94K

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Plymouth-Barracuda-340-6-PACK-833-4-SPEED-PISTOL-GRIP-/221866669848?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=iM2B9HoAj2ubCbntPogCM6JLy8c%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Yes you could go buy that car and be done with it only if you were happy having a car that you couldn't modify for fear of losing value? The part I like about non number cars is it leaves you the benefit of doing it "your way". Be nice to have both if you could afford it. A trailer queen numbers car and a highly modified 6-700 hp fun machine! I wish I had the coin but reality bites!

What do you consider upgrades to make it a restmod?

I'm starting off with a driver and slowly upgrading parts until I get to where I want to be. Just try not to look back at the receipts and tally them up

By far this technique is the best in terms of enjoyment and near instant gratification. That's why I say, buy the best car you can afford initially. Get something you can enjoy and plan as you go.

Or even to yourself.... how many guys do you know when asked "what did it cost" respond with "I stopped keeping track a long time ago" or "I really don't want to know"?

Cars are an addiction like any other; some are more afflicted than others.  ;D

Do you want show or go? Tough to do both on a budget. If you want performance direct most of the money in that direction and do the safety minimums for body work. If I had to do it over again that is what I would do, I like driving and tweaking performance more than showing it... Here is a good example https://youtu.be/oghaMwMT7T8

I LOVE that video; that is the quintessential hotrod muscle car and absolutely awesome. It is what has driven many of us to do what we do; build a model that we love and make it better and better over time. Now you could build that car affordable and enjoy the living crap out of it. You could refine it as you go and smile every day.

I even think at a show you would get more head turns with a primered hot rod than a bone stock car. Although my OCD would force me to paint it the same shade of primer....

The thing I love about that car is its pure functionality, only has what it needs. It is not a show pony yet it would garner a lot of interest at any show. It is like a purpose built weapon. I like shiny beautiful cars, but this one really gets the adrenalin pumping; its like a blank canvas which every guy who looks at it immediately thinks of things he would change to make it "just right" but no one is wrong, you could go so many ways or leave it alone.

There are a lot of definitions out there. It general, it is taking an old muscle car and updating it to perform like a new car: new drive train, suspension and brakes. This almost always includes bigger wheels.

THIS right here is key. What is it in YOUR mind that makes it a resto mod?

In a literal sense, a resto mod could be as simple as a nicely restored car (resto) with aftermarket wheels and tires, headers and exhaust (mod).  If it is a redone everything with aftermarket suspension, 3rd gen Hemi, new driveline, laser straight panels and completely custom dash with a leather interior, it could be 7 figures.

So for more defined answer provide a more defined goal or a more defined budget.
