Lookie what's hiding here....
« on: July 05, 2015 - 09:45:52 PM »
I'm always preaching about buying a done car vs restoring a car. How you never really know what's hiding under the paint...
Check out this "six figure" car...We knew it had quarters put on it, but never imagine some one would install quarters that needed a ton of work...

This is right down the center of the passenger side....24 bondo worm holes....right on the mid body line...the amount of fill it took to remake that line was ridiculous :screwy:

Other pictures of the issues are on my web site    http://www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com/71VCodeCuda.html

I'm just fixing a fender with the same issue.  Why not just do it right the first time!!!!!    :pullinghair:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

What I can't figure out about "back in the day" is why didn't they weld up the holes and grind them down ? Sounds simple enough to me  :dunno:

Well, Alan, as one of those guys "back in the day", it was usually because you were a flat rate guy and that was the quickest way to repair it. We used to also weld shims on to pull. Personally, I welded the holes in the edges because you were begging to have the "salve" come off otherwise and my conscience required it. Don't forget, these were cars that were starting to rot when 2 years old and nobody ever thought they'd be around today. Mea culpa

I know a guy who'd solder those up perfect, but with the car completely torn down, maybe Keith can get at them from behind now. I like Brad's thinking here and think he may be on to something! I'm much closer than those Barrie boys and know the way home now, so I could help you out and get it out of your garage asap!! I'll take a real deep breath and wait for your call.  :smilielol:

I still have the box of drywall screws that were holding on a finder on an old project car... :screwy:

Paint and bondo can hide a lot of sins.  :dogpile:

Both you and Keith are doing a great job! :2thumbs: Knowing the car for many years as well as its history I always felt it would take $100,000cdn to do a top notch restoration on it.  Am I close? I remember Rick S laughing at me when I stated this in an earlier post. :roflsmiley:
