Bump.....anyone?
Also was the panel finish available in black like for an R/T and  BRIGHT ARGENT? I ask because I started stripping the spray paint off it someone else had applied and to me it sure looks like textured silver argent paint?

Here are a few photos of my SE tail panel.

Not sure if it helps.

I'll be taking the tail panel off in the fall, I can give you a shot of the stud that goes on the lower locatiins.

There are a series of screws across the top, they have a formed in washer probably #8 x 3/8"

The ends are secured with the same style clips as regular Challenger end trims...

The bottom row is special clips that haven't been available in 30 years.... They are very unique.... You could probably cheat & use a "T" bolt with some sticky caulk to hold the screws while you position the trim...

Thanks for the rep[lies guys! :2thumbs:
So there are 3 studs on each side to fasten to the quarter like the single quarter piece. And the 7 screws on the top  under the truck lid. and the lock that holds it on in the center. Is there more fasteners needed? I don't see where they would go?  :clueless:
I'm using oven cleaner to remove the black spray bomb that someone else used and figured out its a textured silver same as my grill.
Where can I get a spray bomb of that paint?  What's the name of that colour?

Are you asking about the SE finish panel or the tail panel.  The finish panel was attaced with clips I got from year one and Jim's auto parts.   :clueless:

I can post pics of these clips if you need brad. We have an NOS SE finish panel and Jim purchased the clip /fastener hardware from Jims, but when we went to install they didn't fit very good.

The panel I'm fixing up is just sitting in place. What do you think textured silver like stock of black? The front grill is stock silver( needs a respray) and so are the rims. I can't decide.... :pullinghair:

Top fasteners were for eyebrows, lower left shows 1 original bottom clip that was still on Jims car original. Curved. Still have not found a source for them. Screws go on panel under trunk lip. Hope this helps.

This should be a sticky.

I need to find a source for all of those to make it right.  I suspected it was ad hoc.

Hi Brad,

I did an enormous amount of reading about the trim panel and here is what I came up with:

There were SEs and there were RT/SEs.  Since the RT/SE had black in the front grill area, the trim panel was painted Dark Argent Silver on the RT/SEs.  Since the SE had silver in the front grill area, the trim panel was painted Light Argent Silver on the SEs.

This is best guess stuff.  I have no idea how things were really done way back then.  A hint I can give you is that the color of the tail panel tends to show through the hole cut in the trim panel for the trunk lock. Since these very rarely match up perfectly, that can cause some problems.  Most people just paint the tail panel behind the trim panel black.  That seems to solve this problem.

The trim panel attaches with several clips. (see Marks pics above) If the trim panel was on the car before, there should be several holes in the car that the clips push into and then the trim panel is pushed onto the clips.

After all the research, I finally gave up and decided to paint all the front grill area black and the tail panel black.  It was a lot easier and it looks great.  This will not work for people that really want to get back to original though.

Added:  I got to thinking about that and you should probably put the clips into the trim panel first and then push them into the holes in the body of the car.  Mark would know.  :roflsmiley:

I can't figure out how  where the curved clips attach to the molding?  I see a total of  13 fastener locations , 7 screws across the top and 3 studs on each side along the quarter panel.

Ok after searching the internet I see new holes need to be drilled ( not real keen on that) I found this picture then circled the hole locations in green. What happens if you don't use these 6 curved studs? Will the lock cylinder be enough to hold it in place? Will it rattle?
I see the hardware here but $159 for the 6 studs I need IF I want to drill the holes.... :grinno:
