Rear shock top bolt nut pulling through metal
« on: July 12, 2015 - 05:48:44 PM »
Anyone seen tightening the top rear shock bolt and start seeing the nut pull through the metal? The torque specs say 70 ft. lbs (50 for bottom) but I was no way near it.  My metal isn't rusted but old.

I think I am going to add washers to help.

Make sure the shock has a metal sleeve inside the bushing.

Yep did it on mine when installing bilsteen shocks. The top mount spacer is narrower than the shock cross member mount point and the nut will keep pulling till it goes through the hole. Need to put washers between the shock and mount to fill in the space make a wider sleeve.

Thanks!  I'm installing Bilstein shocks too.  I guess I'll make a wider sleeve and use washers.  I'm surprised these aren't offered as an addition when buying the shocks.

Why would the nut go thru hold?  Is it small?
A washer should be between nut and frame.
Is the top mount of shock smaller than originals?

BarraCuda's are a btch to get to nut and bolt.
