I think the best thing about the time spent after the show is visiting with the other members in the parking lot!  I wish all the members that go to the show would stay at the same hotel so we could hang afterwards . . . . I really enjoy that part of the Carlisle experience!  If we try to stay close to the show, I assume the hotel will fill up and them some members will not be able to stay there.  Viperboy is checking the new hotel that was just built this year on rates and I think it is a good idea to stay some distance from the show so everyone would have a chance for a room and the rates typicaly are cheaper the farther  . . . plus a new hotel should still be in very good condition next year.

This years show went pretty well, the tent seemed to hold everyone and the extra tent for the food also worked out good and left enough space for all the chairs.  Pizza party was decent and certainly had enough for all with only one pie left.  Saturday dinner went the best it has ever with 2 waitresses and the food seemed to come out quickly . . . I think it improves every year but am open for something different if everyone wants to.

I guess the bottom line is I will follow where ever but certainly would like all the members to be together at the same hotel as I really go for the members more than the car show.  Already looking forward to next year . . . .  :2thumbs:

By the way 4C, we (Cathy, Doug, Meghan, Hannah, Ash, Mel and I) did lunch at Appalachian Brewery (where we stopped Friday afternoon) and the food was all quite good.  Prices were the same if not cheaper than Dodge city, though the food was perhaps a tad less "exotic" (no horseradish-mashed-potatoes, calamari, etc.)  They have a private room that fits over 40 people, though it costs $100 to reserve for a weekend evening.  We can then either do a buffet which gets a tad pricey, or just order off menu.  And the manager was quite cute.  :)

Trying to find hotel pricing information, but none of the websites even allow booking out to July of 2016 yet.  The best I could find was booking later this year at the Park Inn, and it was $115 a night.  The new Holiday Inn across the street from the hotel we stayed at this year was $110 a night in June of 2016.

Next thing I can try doing is calling them and seeing if they're even taking reservations out that far yet.

Thanks for the effort. Jim and I are in as soon as the hotel is decided on.   :2thumbs:

I made my reservations at the Quality Inn June 6th
 $99 Friday & Saturday.
To get a room that late,
I think cars and spectators were down this year.

I noticed car AND vendors were down this year. Lots of bigger parts suppliers were absent. I suspect it has to do with the PA enforcing state tax on vendors.

Maybe with all the late model cars/trucks entered so they would have a place to park in the show but actual show cars I'd guess were down judging by the empty spaces in the show fields?

First off, Jeff, great finally meeting you and your lovely wife, and thanks for everything you do every year. This was the first year that I was able to take advantage of both the club lunch and the club dinner. Great stuff.

Since 2010 I've been on a quest to find a "reasonably priced" hotel in Carlisle that was also affordable. After this year, I've given up. Every place Chuck and I have stayed in Carlisle proper has been some level of dump, and this year may have been the worst. Our freaking door lock didn't work, so whenever we left the room, we'd have to stop at the front desk on the way back to have someone come back to the room to unlock it for us.

And even with all of that, dirty rooms, things that don't work, we've been paying a little more than $100 a night. If I can get a really comfortable room for around $130 a night, or even a little more, and have a longer drive, I'll suck it up.

That happened to me too.  :walkaway:  They finally had to replace the whole lock on my door.  :roflsmiley:

So for 20 years we've been at the Motel 6 next to Hoss's 2 miles from the show. When we arrived Thursday they still had rooms available for the weekend (at least three I was told)....I think their price was around $119/night which is up from $99 last year.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

What I think a lot of the places in the area are doing is the reverse of what you would expect. I know I checked with Motel 6 in advance, and they wanted $169. I was not about to pay $169 for a Motel 6. They may have been thinking that they'd sell as many in advance as they could at $169, then take $119 for whatever they had left over at show time.

Even then, and while I like the idea of being close to the show, for any future Carlisles I attend I think I'd rather be with or close to the c-c hotel. I enjoyed the extra time I spent with the group this year, and that would be worth more to me than the few minutes I'd save on the commute.
