74 charger codes
« on: July 14, 2015 - 12:12:05 AM »
I've tried allpar's decoder and it doesn't know half the codes.  Can someone here help with this?

At first look this sure looks like a Lynch Road tag. They are completely different than LA or Hamatrak. Very few options are ever listed. hopefully others will chime in and fill in some blanks.

Lower two lines should be self explanatory.

V4W       vinyl Roof
U            US built specs
V7W       Side strips
22          Guessing 22" radiator
G54        ?????

numbers on top line, no idea

My Coronet 500 is Lynch Road, it shows a counsel and H51 AC and that is it other than the motor and tranny. And similar numbers on the top line.

thanks for the info.  It's definitely a different tag than anything else I have had.

The funny thing is that the car doesn't appear to have had a repaint but I can't seem to find any sign of the white stripes.

It has a half vinyl top.

I'm bringing the car home, or kind of home, tomorrow.

I got this from Dodgecharger.com

09=gate number
141= base number
291431= sequence number.

The above are related to production of the body in white.

513= engine assembly number = B body 318-2bbl with automatic transmission and no A/C
181= rear axle assembly number. I presume it's an 8.25 axle
868= last three digits of transmission part number = 3681868

G54= left hand outside; remote; chrome racing mirror

22= 22" radiator

V4W= White vinyl canopy top
U= Built for sale in the US
V7W= white painted stripe on the side

JL6= Aztec Gold Metallic
N1YW = interior code = Charger interior; Cloth and Vinyl bench seat; gold and white interior.
000=full door panels
723 (1974) = SCHEDULED (not actual) production date.
233708= Vehicle Order Number (VON)

E44= 318-2bbl 150 HP Net
D34= Automatic transmission
WH23= Charger 2 Dr HT
G=318-2bbl
4= Model year 1974
A= built at Lynch road plant
284198= VIN sequence number

Dude! You got an Aztec Charger and post no pics???? WTF?

The white stripes were just a pinstripe down the sides. Maybe a double pinstripe...I forget.

I've had two Aztecs. They're the sister car to the Sundance Satellite. 74 Spring Specials. Available in white or Aztec gold only. Bench or buckets in black/gold/white.

Yours is the first hardtop I've seen. I thought they were all S.E.s (WH29). Does it have a Brougham interior?

It's highly unlikely that they were spring specials in 1974 since the interior is shown on the cover of the Charger section of the Color and Trim Selector. Though additions were made to the trim selectors throughout the model year it's not likely that they would spend the money to print a new section cover page. The interior is called Aztec print and was available on both the Charger and the Charger S.E. It was available in both bucket seat and bench seat configurations, and in addition to the Aztec Gold and Eggshell White you mention it was also available on Black cars.

I do think they were spring specials for 1973 though since neither the JL6 paint or the interior is shown in the color and trim selector I have.

I stand corrected and have never seen a black Aztec! Thanks for the info, KA. (I always forget your real name...LOL)

The guys on some other site always said these were Spring Special cars, so I guess I just passed on the misinformation.

Like I said in 1973 I believe they were. They just carried the paint and interior over for 1974. I have a vague recollection of the 1974 Spring Special having a new gradated stripe color and Sienna paint with a different interior, but really can't remember for sure.

I'll post a few pics up.  Not much interest in those cars here so I didn't put anything up yet.

Decent looking car in those pictures you posted.

I had a '73 Charger in college so I always will have a soft spot for them. Wish I had better pics of it.

sorry.

I don't have many good pics. yet.

where she sits now.

Where I found her.  She sat there for ten years while my buddy who grew up in that town kept telling me he wouldn't sell it.  Had it in the family since it was born.  One day he called and said the guy wanted to sell it.  I had to buy it.  My first charger.

I am wondering if you left the 70 barracuda next to it there, or did you take that one with the charger? :2thumbs:
