727....but not in am E body
« on: July 15, 2015 - 03:42:55 PM »
It's in a rock crawler.....odd combo of Chevy vortec 350 with adapter. I bought it this way....hey it works.

The problem I have is when it warms up it has a no response in any gear when coming from Park. In order to get it to "lock in" to start pulling you either have to wait about 5 seconds and/or give it some gas.

Once that process is complete it shifts fine. It only acts up after coming out of Park. Pulls great...no slips....nothing.

Just did a recent filter /fluid change hoping for better results but not much better. Think I used the Dexron 3 stuff.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.  I believe the trans is from a mid 80s Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Your "pump" is getting a little weak and it is taking time to build up enough line pressure to shift into gear.   Remember, in a 727 the fluid pump does NOT run when the tranny is in Park.   That is why you are told to check the fluid level when idling in Neutral not in Park.  I would simply recognize this.   If you need faster engagement put it into Neutral first.

Thanks for the help....I've tried the neutral thing but there seems to be no real noticeable change.

Is this something I can jus "live with".....or is the trans gonna die slowly because of this?

Probably never been touched.  Once it "locks" in a gear it pulls hard and shifts good.

When it locks....it locks hard in gear then it all works fine.

better tranny guys can chime in, but band adjustment plays a part in engagement.
