Need advice on a cool opportunity
« on: July 19, 2015 - 11:52:52 PM »
So my brother has a friend who works in the filming industry. He approached my brother the other day because he knows about our Cudas. Apparently they are shooting a commercial for some German beer company and are looking to rent three American muscle cars for their two day shoot. He expressed interest in mine and my brothers Cuda. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately the commercial is going to be shot at the Bonneville Salt Flats. :/ We are still waiting on some more details, so it's unclear exactly how our cars would be used.

Driving my car on the salt is obviously my biggest concern. My car was not exactly a rotisserie restoration, so the bottom side of the car isn't exactly spotless. It does have a VERY thick coat of aftermarket undercoating, but my worry is that salt will just be everywhere regardless of how its driven on the flats. Apparently part of the deal is that they will pay for the cars to be professionally washed and detailed after the shoot, but that doesn't resolve my concerns.

My other concern is how they plan to be driving it. Roughly 8 years ago Billy Graham (yes, that Billy Graham) rented my brothers Cuda to use in a movie called Road to Redemption. They would not allow us to be on the set while they were shooting with the car. Well, turns out the stunt driver lost control of the car and ran it over a couple huge rocks damaging the front valence, radiator support, and oil pan. The company paid for all the repairs, but you can see my concerns here.

My brother is going get some more details, but I already told him I will not allow them to take the car unless I'm at the shoot while they are driving it.

I think this would be a cool opportunity for us, but there are a lot things I'm worried about. Thoughts?

Ain't no way....   I know plenty of guys who run on the salt, the car comes home from the salt & comes completely apart, if you miss a grain of salt next year you'll know exactly where that salt got missed..... Some guys run their cars on the salt & just pressure wash what they see.... Generally within a couple years the tin works work becomes pretty obvious...

I'm going to concur with everyone else. The film industry is famous for telling car guys that they'll take care of their cars, but ultimately, if they've paid you, they feel like they've completed their commitment to you.
