covering door panels in leather
« on: July 20, 2015 - 01:02:24 PM »
has anyone considered or tried to cover the door or interior panels in a leather or other material? Just curious if this has ever been done or can be done to improve the overall feel of the interior without making it look "too aftermarket"

Just put my car together and I am very happy with the results of the leather coverings. The only setback I can see......and it's minor, is where the door panel and quarter panel meet when the door is closed. They rub together but it appears they will learn to live together just fine in a short period of time. I didn't put leather over the whole panel so where they folded it under it is doubled up and that spot is where they rub.

Thanks johannes, I don't know what the problem is with the guy who posted the ??? All I did was tell of my experience with it and the trouble I encountered with pics to show what I was talking about. Could have ignored it if he thought it was useless. I've had some good help for my build on this forum, so when something comes up that I may have come across I just want to pass it on. Not claiming to be an expert. Oh well, lesson learned.

Maybe the pictures didn't show up for the original poster so he was just asking for "dude !! pics ?? "

That's what it sounds like to me  :dunno:

I've seen full interior panels "Skinned" that looked very nice. The owner said it wasn't easy or cheap. The shop had tried and failed a couple times before getting them nice without any wrinkles. I liked them!  :2thumbs:
I would only do it to so so panels though. Nice panels I would just clean and paint if that's all they needed. Lots of other things to spend money on...  :2cents:

I'm thinking of doing this to my 70 Cuda project. Did you recover the doors yourself? is it vinyl or leather? Can I ask what it cost and if you have any pics of the backseat panel as well?

Thanks!!

Hey yamanut, sorry it took so long to answer.....I haven't looked here in a few days. I did not recover them myself. I wanted them to look good, ha. The same guy that did my seats did them. The seats and doors are both leather. I paid $2,700.00 to have the seats, front and back done. That included repairing the foam and copying the original 73 Cuda seats. I paid between 7 and 8 hundred for the doors and back panels that included repairs on the panels.....speaker holes, cracks and whatnot. Also included foam padding on all the panels. So here is some pics.
