Mopar Nationals, Columbus, Ohio Aug 7-8-9
« on: July 21, 2015 - 04:32:05 AM »
Any members going to be there? If there is a large number, I was thinking of putting tents up again then meeting for the Saturday Buffet at Stacy's on Saturday at 6PM. If not, the tents stay in STL and I drive my car up without them.

I'm 99% sure I'm NOT going.  It will be the first time I've missed the show since I started going...20 years ago.

This one you could have driven the Challenger to. What good is having a car if you never really drive it? I just put 7000 miles on my 2 challengers in the last 6 weeks.

Gogreen, you going to have your car this year?

Being a regular, you'll have to report back to us on how the show is.

I stopped going after 15 straight years in 1999 because of Carlisle being 1000 times better IN MY OPINION....

I've heard that the Nats have done nothing but go downhill in the last few years....even the night activity is pretty much dead :dunno:

I love the swap meet and love looking at the large number of cars for sale in the car corral. I also drag raced for 10 years in a 10 sec car and I had my kids in junior dragsters so I still miss and watch the drag racing. I also know a large group from MO and Ohio that I only see once a year, so I get to hang out. If I didn't have a lot of friends there, I would still go because I like hanging around with other car guys.

I can't speak for anyone else, but as I move forward in age....I just can't handle the chaos of the Nats....The piled high garbage, over filled toilets....golf carts.... :misbehaving:

It was fun when we were younger...  I still think us Canadians were responsible for starting the burn out competitions at the Nights Inn/ Days Inn off of Brice Rd....back in 1986-1987 .....nobody else was doing it, we seemed to always be the first to go.... :burnout:

Nothing compared to Brice Road in the early 90's......Then the sheer terror that came with the four years at Indy....I don't know how many people got busted back then..... :screwy: :dupe:

....But now I'm happy with the peaceful tranquillity of Carlisle  :bananasmi

I won't deny that the Nats have failed but there is still a lot of good . . . . Drag racing, MOPAR's, swap meet and some do enjoy having their car judged. . . . Back in the  day . .  To get gold at the MOPAR nationals was the highest bragging rights you could have . . . . Don't think that is the case anymore . . . Not near as much hype over MOPAR nats judging . . . .  :dunno:

Belinda can't even use the word Mopar anymore. It's called the 35th Annual Nationals this year.

I've never had an issue with golf carts at the Nats.  Every year people complain about the carts but I've never had a close call.  This year at Carlisle however, I did almost get hit by a golf cart.  They were announcing all weekend that motorized vehicles weren't allowed but I still saw them all over.  There was even a company in the swap area that was renting out scooters. :dunno:

The last few years at the Nat's have been a lot better in reguards to trash and bathroom cleanliness.  Maybe it depends on what bathroom area you are going to.  Other then needing some type of air freshener(like they have in the bathrooms at Carlisle) I haven't had a problem.

The judged show just keeps getting smaller and smaller.  After going there for so many years, it's just become stagnant.  Something needs to change to get the excitement back IMO.  I usually would be getting excited weeks in advance.  I'm just not feeling it this year.  Not to mention the fact that a new truck payment, car insurance and medical bills all seem to pile up at once this year.
