Dash Installation ( general question )
« on: July 25, 2015 - 05:25:54 AM »
I am putting the car together and want to get the dash in.....
I am going to put FatMat in the car for insulation,,,,,
Right now,,,there is NOTHING in the interior,,,,

What do I need to mount in the interior,,,BEFORE i can hang the dash ??  ( ie,,,do i have to run the fatmat behind the dash ?, I have the factory insulation as well,,,any vents that need to be mounted ??,,,,

Would like to get the dash in,,,,,but dont want to have to remove it later because i forgot to mount or hang something on the firewall or interior .....

Thanks,

Doug

I put EVERYTHING that goes behind the dash in first.
I assemble the dash 100% first.
Then install it.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Alan, when you say "everything" behind the dash, what are you referring to. Insulation? Vents? Other?. I have the dash  completely assembled on my bench ready to install, wiring harness, dash pad everything ready to go. Curious what you mean by everything that goes behind it, thanks for your input

The defrost duct attaches to the firewall, heater box installed, If it's an A/C car the vacuum harness is with the A/C box... Parking brake, throttle pedal, antenna, speedometer cable..

The dash will have all the electrical hooked up, if its an A/C car the vints are fitting & the ducting is installed...

put the two bottom bolts in their holes on either A pillar, it's easier with help lift the dash into the car, set the two side tabs on the bolts & roll the dash up into position...

Thats all good and well but what about getting the dash frame lined up with the steering column bolts..... Try getting it to "roll" into place without having those hang you up.....lol

Those should have been removed during disassembly... Installed after the dash is secured by the bolts in the defrost vents...

Yup...I agree with everything stated above...remove the two studs.
I work alone so I hook the dash on the two lower bolts, use a short hook made out of a coat hanger to hold the dash in a "leaned back" position....and from above (windshield out) I hook up everything first....then bolt the dash up.

Exactly.. I've done a few myself, it's not hard but kinda awkward, having a helper lowers the potential for an accident..

You can put the other stuff in later but it makes no sense to do it that way. Also, leave the windshield out until after the dash goes in.

I'm gonna do this myself soon. Btw, is it possible to leave the windsheild in place?

Great!    I got one of those swivels.

1/4" drive or 3/8"?  3/8 will work but 1/4" gives better access & no rubbing on the dash pad....
