Whats the purpose of the splash shields?
« on: July 31, 2015 - 08:07:45 PM »
Other than keeping "splash" out of the engine .... do these aid in airflow out of the engine bay?  I ask as I get a lot of heat trapped under the hood . I removed them and never bothered to put them back on?

I think were leaving ours off, more air in and out of the engine bay.

Not a bad idea! I never drive in the rain anyway.

That's what I'm trying to figure out? I have a lot of heat in the engine compartment that seems stuck until your moving at 45 MPH or so.

Maybe not to pack dirt and water into the engine area?

To prevent corrosion in those areas?

I took mine off years ago, I come across them in a bin ,and just thought the same thing let some heats out, it is right near the headers, and I have been though plenty of rain/snow  storms and large puddles, the engine gets a little wet ,but nothing to worry about :2cents:

I have alot of sheet aluminum  :thinkerg:  I'm thinking about building some vents that as the car moves thru the air it creates a vacuum on the engine compartment, pulling hot air out.   Yep, I really want to do that.

That would be interesting Mark for sure, Brad, is it worth taking the front and rear hood seals off, I know its only about 3/4" gap but might help vent quicker :dunno: (the seals are the one across the radiator support pannel and the firewall)

:)  I just did that today( Took off the cowl seal) I got a new one at Carlisle to put back on if it doesn't work out. I'm thinking it might blow engine bay fumes/hot air right down the vents and into the car?  :dunno: I never had a hood seal being a T/A hood.

Yep I'm going to do it.   :2thumbs:  Mockup with cardboard then build them. Once in spray some undercoat, looks factory.   :bigshades:  I think leaving the cowl seal off as Brad said lets lots of hot air into the interier.

Hmmm, scratch that dumn ass idea then, I like the smell of burning fuel but dont need to pass out from poisoning!!!! Im leaving the inner fender covers off (UCA cam access) in an effort ot get air flow.

However, if your using a Vintage Air unit like we are, the right side cowl inlet is blocked off. No outside air enters the cabin.  :2thumbs:  And like many other old cars, there is no left side inlet of outside air,
