Front End Geometry
« on: August 02, 2015 - 08:21:05 PM »
Does any one have a link to a good front end geometry program?
I'm looking at changing my spindles on my "Cuda and would like to see the effects.
something like this.

On the link I posted I measured the uppers control arm locations on my car, but this program doesn't allow for the angle they are mounted on or that they are staggard so I picked a middle point. On the lower mounts I measured the width of the LCA/torsion bars but for the up and down I moved them to suit the roll centers I was looking for as I can do that easy enough when I build my own k-frame. The torsion bar in the rear sockets will move about 2" in any direction I found before they require being moved.

I use this one now, but it may be a bit pricey to just see what a spindle change does. They also have books that outline how to perform the analysis manually using  plot points and paper. I used method this when I was racing ovals back in the 1990s. You just need to use a large, like 5-6 pieces taped together, to get any meaningful detail in the plots.

What spindles are you swapping to? If you a changing the stock E body units for the taller F body units, the biggest change you will experience will be a raising of the roll center height.

You just have to go out and measure them. They will differ from car to car based on ride height and tire aspect ratios in use. I typically run my cars so low my lower control arm is horizontal to the ground which has a big impact on the geometry compared to a car set at a stock ride height.
