So... Drum Brakes.
« on: August 04, 2015 - 12:25:29 AM »
I'm trying to get a Charger on the road that has been off the road for quite a while. Long story short, I replaced the master and all the wheel cylinders, a front brake hose and a front drum, and adjusted the front shoes. It still seems like the rear is locking up before the front.  I haven't driven a drum brake car in a while. Is this normal? Maybe I need more front brake bleeding? Suggestions?

Or tighten the adjustment up front and/or loosen the rear adjustment.. Just know under hard use they will fade badly... Back in the 70's I owned a few muscle cars with drum brakes, they work OK, till about 75 mph at which point it's like someone flipped a switch... Useless... Drove a can with discs & after that if I bought a car with drums the first change was always discs...

:iagree:  Adjust them with a spoon or flat head screw driver.

Yeah, I'm planning a front disc swap. Just trying to get it decently safe right now.

Exactly what I did with my Charger, then the drums failed because a spring popped.  I called Dr Diff and had front discs on within a week.  Don't take chances.

Yep!  I have the 10.7 kit on mine. Works great no issues.  Works with the stock tapered bearings too.  :2thumbs:

I would recommend these two, although I put the Right Stuff kit on my Challenger that required green bearings. Cass is great to work with.
