71 "N" Code Challenger Ragtop - updated pics 8-05-05

NOW It's ready for sale and listed on eBay as well!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4566996951&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

My 71 Ragtop Chall  Please note -  this is NOT a concourse type of restoration.   It is a super nice show/driver.  I don't consider it a show car because these cars were made to be driven! And I've been driving it :)

This car is an original "N" Code 383 4 barrel car but sadly when I got it the numbers matching engine and all documentation was missing - NO BUILD SHEET OR FENDER TAG - please don't ask.  Since its pedigree papers were missing I decided to build the car I would have ordered had I not only been 4 years old in 1971.  As such, what you are seeing is a one of a kind re-creation of a car Mopar never built - a 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T with a 440.   There are many that would call this car a clone but since MaMopar never offered an R/T Convertible in '71, I guess the proper term is Phantom.

Body - This car's body is in great shape as is the paint.  Although not perfect, I'd give the paint around a 8 out of 10.  The car did have the rear quarters, trunk floor and one floor pan professionally replaced.  The floors and frame rails are rock solid and are painted Plum Crazy.  There is no undercoating hiding the sins of the past here!  The Fenders and hood are also rust free.  The Steel Shaker Hood is made with a Northwest Performance steel underhood brace and trim ring.  The bubble is from Year One as is the fiberglass baseplate/adapter.  The Firewall/cowl is pristine.  I replaced all of the weatherstripping as well as rubber bumpers.  The car has NOS 71 only R/T Quarter scoops and  Fender Moudings.  The Wide Hood Molding has been rechromed but does have some blemishes.  The Bumpers are New.  The marker lights and housings are also new.  The tail lenses are NOS but one of the tail panel reflectors is cracked.  All of the stainless trim is in excellent condition and has been buffed out to an awesome looking shine.  Has new Flip Top gas cap and correct 1971 only Gull-Wing spoiler (aka Go-Wing) and R/T Stripe.

Interior - All new interior.  Professionally recovered seats.  New door and rear panels,  new sill plates, new Kenwood AM/FM Cd Player with new pioneer 4*6 front speaker and bass reflex speakers in trunk - no holes cut anywhere to get tunes :)  New carpet, new Power Top that works great.  Has Rallye Instrument Cluster that all works although the clock runs fast and the tach seems slugish.  The speedometer also reads about 20% high due to the rims/tires & gears.  Has cool looking Gunslinger slap stick shifter.

Mechanical - The 440 engine has been professionally rebuilt by local race engine builder.  The block is a 77 block but it now has a steel crank, new H beam rods, new  .030 over pistons, new Comp Cams Xtreme Energy XE274H-10 cam (.488/.491 lift 274/286 duration), new high volume oil pump, all new bolt ons (incl alternator, electronic distributor, etc).  Engine features polished stainless steel brackets including one for the Sanden A/C Compressor that allows for the Shaker Hood and A/C.  A/C not installed but the compressor & bracket are there.  Also has New Power Steering Pump and New Fast Ratio Steering Gear Box.  Front end was also rebuilt. The rear is a newly rebuilt 8-3/4 with sure grip and 3.55 gears with anti-sway bar.  Transmission is a freshly rebuilt 727 with a shift kit and new converter.  Has TTI 1-7/8" Ceramic Coated Headers and full mandrell bent 2.5" dual exhaust with highly polished stainless steel tips.    Also has 4 Wheel Power Disc Brakes featuring cross drilled rotors and NOS Power Disk Brake Booster and Master Cylinder.  All brake and fuel lines are new stainless steel ones.  Brake hoses are also new.  New gas tank and 3/8" sending unit.

Car is listed for sale elsewhere and is subject to prior sale.  More pictures of the car including ones taken during the restoration are on my website - http://musclemopars.freeservers.com

If you have any questions, please call me at 954-224-5849.  I do not check my email over the weekends.

I am open to Partial MOPAR only trades, nothing valued more than 15-20K however.  I'll even consider a Pro Street type of Mopar preferably E-Body.

BTW - Ideally, I'd like to get say $55K or so straight up or $45K AND a decent driver type Ebody (preferably a 4 speed car) in partial trade.  That way I don't have to give up on having one altogether. :grinno:

more pics on my website as well - http://musclemopars.freeservers.com

What color interior and top are you putting on it?  Console  and rally gauges?  What kind or rear end is in the car? Was this an AC car or are you adding it with a modern unit and new dash with vents, etc?  Thanks.

Cudacruzer - The car is getting a White top & Interior.  If you go to my website - http://musclemopars.freeservers.com you can see some of it installed already.  Yes, the car has rallye guages & slap stick/console.  I plan on putting one of the pistol grip shifters for the automatic but I do have an NOS T-Handle if the buyer prefers (I'll just keep the pistol grip for a future project).  The rear is a newly rebuilt 8-3/4" 3.23 Sure-grip w/aftermarket sway bar. .  I am installing an aftermarket A/C unit w/ sanden compressor that fits under the Shaker hood rather nicely.

If you have any other questions, I will not be logging on the computer at all over the long weekend.  Give me a call if you'd like or I'll answer any posts on Tuesday.

thanks,
Gary

New Pics - heading to the buffers to get wet sanded & buffed.  Plus, getting windsheild installed. Top Shop too busy :(

Then, it's on to the A/C shop  :burnout:

Here's some pics of the rear wheel wells and inner quarters showing how clean the car.  As you can see,  Frame Rails are perfect as are the quarter extensions.
