Which way to go with exhaust
« on: August 09, 2015 - 03:22:22 PM »
Trying to decide which way to go.  I need a exhaust system.   The only thing i have is the manifolds.  Should I
Buy a system from accurate that goes from manifold back or go to TTi  and buy headers and a whole system.
The engine is correct for the car but it's not numbers matching so the car is never going to be high dollar.  I
Want to drive the car quite frequently.  Engine is freshly rebuilt to stock.  I was going to sell but decided that I
Will start fixing some things on the car.

Really depends on what you want in regards to sound and performance. Also the overall theme of the car.

I would have the manifolds ceramic coated and get a system from Accurate.  :2cents:  I just don't like headers.

TTi can supply you with a complete system from either manifolds or headers back also .
I agree with Alan front to rear is the preferred route !!  :smilielol:
Your call on headers or manifolds , both have advantages depending what you want .

I would suggest that for a high $ resto Accurate will look the most original .
TTI will fit perfectly & with all mandrel bends should flow better but doesn't look original

well... there`s headers and headers for sure, but even tti`s can have their fitment issues... my friend had to beat up his $$$ tti to clear the steeringbox.  Once in you`re fine ( apart from extra heat in an already crazy hot enginebay)  but trouble starts when stuff breaks and wrenching is needed.  Cant get the starter out ( many boil to death because of the headers) , can`t get the steeringbox out etc etc.  Every time you need to repair something , drain coolant , pita to get in and out :blah:
Sounds great, better performance, looks great ( when ceramic coated ) but I will never have headers in again.  just my opinion though...

The headers give more problems than their pros. I have Hooker Headers in my car. I can't work on my car without removing them (driver side mostly). The work on the car is the hardest (and most furious) part. This is why I want to change them. I can't even install all the spark plugs with a torque wrench...

When I bought my car the headers were already installed... it does get HOT HOT HOT because of them... luckily I havent had to remove them to do anything, but they're rusted and i'm afraid thaat they're going to be a nightmare to remove when the time comes. The header gasket is slightly leaking on the passenger side too, i'm just dreading the removal..but whenever I do take them off chances are i'll re install the stock manifolds.

Like everyone said, it depends on the theme you want for the car. If you want stock appearing then stick with manifolds. If it's high performance your after with the usual engine mods, then no self respecting high performance muscle car can be seen without headers.

I have Hookers #5115's on my Cuda , what's the problem?

I had stock manifolds on and the car was a dog and it made my mufflers drone like bass drums..

Use what ever makes you happy I guess....

Going to the track for the fastest ET? Gut your car to lighten it and go with headers for sure. Want your peak HP over 6000 rpm? Headers for sure.
Love the sound of each cylinder in the header tubes? Go with headers. Lots of good reasons to go either way. I like both for different reasons/cars.
Personal preference.
