My first Mopar, Challenger R/T SE 1970
« on: August 10, 2015 - 04:04:57 AM »
Hello

I just bought my first Mopar, a 1970 Challenger R/T SE. 383 matching numbers. The car has a fairly new paintjob and is really nice. I was actually thinking of buying a Camaro when I saw the ad for the Dodge
I have only owned it for a couple of weeks and I think the radiator isn´t too good because the car overheats on the highway so I ordered a new one and hopefully it will solve the problem.
The idle in park was way too high as well, but after the carb and ignition were adjusted it now idles as it should

edit:
The new radiator did the trick.
I'm actually from Sweden, the pic is from the Ebay ad. The car was imported from Florida to Sweden in June

Very nice. Don't throw away the original rad. Keep it or at least post the # stamped on the top of the tank and we'll let you know if is correct for the car or not.

Welcome , check the timing , make sure the vacuum advance is disconnected or not connected to manifold vacuum , you want approx 18 * at idle with 36 or so at 3000 rpm , you may not have a rad problem

Welcome, nice car . I have heard of people putting in the wrong head gaskets and covering the cooling holes causing the car to overheat. Hopefully yours is a minor fix. George

Well, for a guy who nearly bought a Cheeby, you recovered quite nicely! As mentioned, that's a nice car and a hell of a good place to start from! Welcome to the site.
