over head console,. still at it
« on: August 11, 2015 - 07:06:28 PM »
Ok I have the low fuel light and fuel Gage working, now the seat belt and door ajar light stay on and won't turn off. I got time delay part # 2889565 followed the wiring diagram best I could, one terminal go's to pink leads from harness, yellow from low fuel relay book seas other terminal would be for key switch light. witch I do not have, so with pink on the terminal marked  b2 one terminal is hot all the time and the other dose nothing. what triggers this to activate, what am i not seeing, or what am I doing wrong. :dunno: :clueless: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Door ajar light is supplied 12v constantly, It grounds through with door ajar switch which are the switches in the rear of the jamb, similar to the normal pin switches used for dome light but because it's in the rear jamb it's much more sensitive.... If the light is on all the time try unplugging both switches.. Then plug them in one at a time, with the door fully closed the light should go out immediately...

Seat belt is fed from the time delay It doesn't know whether you've buckled up or not just turns the light on for a short time to remind you.... If the light stays on either the timer has failed on or the yellow trigger wire is receiving a ground either through the dome light switch, the headlight switch or a bare wire....

Ok I only have the door jam switches in the front at the hing or A posts. nothing at rear of door jams the yellow wire looks to feed both door ajar and seat belt light. it gos yellow through the over head harness then branches off red and yellow to the bulb sockets.  and yes the lights stay on with doors closed, so what I am gathering is its A ground issue, and I still am missing something with no rear jam switch correct.    thank you .  does any one have a picture of the rear jam switch

Try pulling both front of the door pin switches  out & unplug them.... Leave the wires hanging out of the hole far enough that the terminals can't ground... Any change in the lights?   If wired correctly this should only effect the seat belt light & the seat belt light will stay on another 15-20 seconds till the timer opens it's contacts...

If the light still stays on unplug the timer... It's the little round can hanging under the dash near the steering column with three wires going to it...  If the light goes out the timer likely has failed... They are still available & should be pretty cheap. some people try to sell them for big $$$ but you can find them for less than $10...

Little over priced but free shipping...  Not labeled correctly...  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Headlight-Relay-Standard-RY-300-/400806475855

On the door ajar, is there even a hole in the rear jamb? Or evidence someone welded up the hole when the car got restored? These holes are in the middle of the jamb on the body on that flat area... If you pull the rear interior panels there should be a yellow wire in the area near the window regulator...

:wow: I finale got it to work! there is A yellow/black tracer bubble wires that go into A female connecter that originates from the front dome light switches. that triggers the time delay, I did locate the holes for the rear dome light switches. but I do not have the switches. are they the same as the front?  I am thinking not but  :dunno: and if they are different were do I find them?  again thank you vary much!

The rear pin switches are very similar but I'm thinking the thread diameter is different & the lug that the wire attaches to is at 90 degrees to the switch body... Someone listed a replacement pt # awhile back & I should have saved it but since I no longer own any cars with fixed roofs & don't plan to in the future....

BTW awesome that your getting it..

It is all working now!!! :clapping: my parts guy looked up and did find A listing for the rear switch. but it did not have a spade on it, so he ordered 2 front switches. got 2 fine thread nuts, round  file to enlarge the holes slightly, cut the plastic separator off flush with the spades. plugged in the black wire to the smaller spade and WA-lah. every thing is working :woo: THANK_YOU all for the help guys and runcharger I hope this helps you when you do your car. if you need any help I will be glad to be any assistance while it is still fresh in my mind.  but then again as much as I beat my brains out on it I should retain this lesson for A .while
