Leaf Spring Bushing Size - 2" dia. versus 1 1/2" dia.
« on: August 12, 2015 - 04:19:38 PM »
I'm trying to order a bushing set for my leaf springs but how do I know if I need: With 2" dia. main eye bushing or With 1 1/2" dia. main eye bushing?

I measured my leaf spring end and it looks to be 2" dia outside and inside looks 1 1/4" dia.  This is on a 1973 Dodge Challenger 340.  Thanks.

   Just watching this, my bushings fit the leaf spring but seem to small for the frame rail.   :dunno:

Yours are the larger 2" ones. The smaller ones were used on six pack and hemi cars. The measurement is the inside diameter of the leaf spring itself, not the bushing. :2cents:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

so just to be sure, FCC, measure the outside of the spring eye, it should be near 2 1/2" OD, the leaf is approx 1/4" to take off 2 x 1/4", will give you the ID of the eye.

So I'm finally getting my springs done.  I ordered the larger 2" bushings but they are too big.  My measurements were right that I needed 1 1/2".

I just couldn't believe it because I have a 340.  From my understanding, the smaller ones were only for HEMIs and 440s.

Has anyone seen a stock 340 with the smaller eyelet leaf springs?  I believe these are stock but who knows what happened in the last 40+ years???  I'll check part or cast numbers to confirm.  Thanks.

MY '73 340-Ralley came with 1--1/2" .... The Poly kit I bought shipped with 2" bushings so I had a friend with a lathe turn them down.
