Fuel Problems
« on: August 13, 2015 - 11:21:11 AM »
Hello, Hoping for some new idea's to help me with a issue. I drag race my 73 340 Challenger. I have a situation where i loose fuel pressure at the end of the 1/4 mile. I have a 3/8 sending unit with 3/8 aluminum fuel line. with an electric Holley Blue (110) pump with a Mechanical High Volume pump as well. I have an inline fuel filter before the pump. My electric pump is located on the cross member above the hog head. I have looked at the "where to mount Fuel pump" thread and from what i see that is an ok place, But i don't know if you guys race or if the same thing happens toward the end of the track. The car runs 12.60's in the 1/4.

Thanks
Jason

Welcome
3/8 line should be adequate to feed the 340 .
But you never want a filter before the fuel pump , pressure is far more effective at pushing through a filter than vacuum is trying to pull through a filter .
The Holley blue pumps are not the best either , besides being very noisy , the Mallory 110 is better .

Lose either the mechanical, or electric pump. You don't need both. I have run the holley blue pump on low 11 second cars. Also have run  high volume mechanical pump on 11 second cars. You don't need both. Easily check output by unhooking fuel line and pump into a can for 30 seconds, or 1 minute, and see how much you get. Where is your gauge picking up its pressure reading? What makes you think you are running out of fuel? A 12 .6 second small block can easily run a 3/8 line with either pump, and not run out of fuel. I would tend to agree with CP about the filter, however I ran a GF 481 ac delco filter, between the tank on pump, on my last car. Ran 11.6 with it.

Just had another thought. The Holley blue pumps that I ran many years ago had a screen on the inlet, maybe yours has some "crap" on it. Take the bottom off the pump to access it, and throw it away.
