Broadcast Sheet Reproductions

I know . . . I know . . .  if you don't have your original broadcast sheet you are S.O.L. But for those of us out there who do not have our broadcast sheets, would this, could this, be an option to have a broadcast sheet reproduced, as long as you tell any buyer that the broadcast sheet is NOT original? To me, I don't THINK this would be unethical if you are open and honest up front, then the 'reproduced" broadcast sheet would be a nice touch when you have a numbers matching, date correct car, with original fender tag, as I do.

You seem like a pretty fair and honest group of folks out there . . . Opinions? Thoughts?

IMHO - you either have the original BS and FT or nothing.  Repop tags and now BS are just for messing around, you could put what ever you wanted on this.  I can think of a lot more stuff I'd rather buy for my car for $300 than a made up BS.

Was your car built in Los angles? or 5th digit E. it is my understanding that these cars would not have A build sheet. I don't know why but that is what I was told.

my car is a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT/SE 440-6, Dark Burnt Orange, built at Hamtramck plant, car's build date is CO1,undergoing restoration now, I am only using NOS or OEM parts where needed, my FT is original, but I never found a BS, its just something that has been bugging me, but no way would I ever want to deceive any potential buyer (if I ever was going to sell), I would tell them up front and would write reproduction on the outside of the plastic-sleeved repo BS

Yes, you are an honest person.  My concern is about the person you sell it to one day.  Are they?  Or, if they get caught in a future lie are they going to point back at you and say, "well, he told me it was an original build sheet!"

ok, so I could write REPRODUCTION in large letters across the BS in diagonal fashion so that there would be no mistaking the BS's originality . . . but wonder if that would defeat the purpose?

The problem is that without the originals, there is NO way of knowing exactly how to fill out the new sheet.  Not everything was coded on the fender tag so you can't just go by that.  There were changes during the model year and things were listed differently on the sheets.

Basically,  it looks like a no win situation.  There is no way I would ever give it to someone without marking it as a reproduction (old lawyer in me). I could just see someone coming after you for fraud and wanting you to refund part of the purchase price. I may just be jaded in my old age, but I have seen people do stuff like that before.

I'm not sure where you'll find the correct info to fill it out, so I'm sure the self proclaimed Mopar Police will be able to tell if it's a reproduction anyways, and nobody gets fooled...

It's a neat addition to your car just like the reproduction window stickers everybody buys...

Why not just print one yourself....http://www.moparts.org/Tech/  look at the bottom of the page.  They have them for 70/71.

The way I see it is: A repro document cheapens the car. You're way better off with no sheet than a repro sheet that will be picked out and questioned, they question the sheet, then they will question the car. No sheet means you aren't trying to fool anyone. Different people will interpret things in different ways.
Just how I feel. I had the sheet for my 66 Hemi Coronet but no tag. Originally I thought "cool I can get a correct tag made off the sheet" but I rethought it and didn't do it. I did have a repro made for my Orange Challenger but I have the original safely stored and the repro on the car.

I had planned to make a tag for fun, a completely bogus tag. None of the mopar tag repoppers I've seen will do that, however. Or, at least, they say they won't

thanks for all of your opinions/suggestions/remarks etc. I guess this was more of a mental exercise for me than anything else, I agree that if you have a repo BS then what next would the potential buyer ask that is repo? Would he/she question the whole car's validity?

And oh BTW, I suspect that mice did indeed eat THE WHOLE BS, but they also ate a lot of the padding in the car, i.e. glove compartment, SE headliner, etc.
