Best hood to cowl seal ?
« on: August 14, 2015 - 11:15:15 PM »
I need a new seal and found this .....  http://www.rosevillemoparts.com/product_info.php/p/seal-hood-to-cowl-70-74-e-body/products_id/8009

Does it seal better than it looks like it would ? I could care less if its "numbers matching". I want something that works. I would think that something like a trunk seal or a tubular style would be better.

I bought this one and it fit perfect!  I also like this one over other because the pins are already pre-installed and match up with the holes perfectly.  Double check with Dave before ordering but that is the way mine came a couple years ago.

I'm thinking of replacing the reproduction one I bought.
It's wavy at the curves like Stroganoff noodles.

Have a picture of the one installed from Roseville?

Just a partial shot of it here.  I just let it lay flat for a couple hours and then snapped it right in.

If your using Vintage Air unit, the cowl opening on the right side coming into the heater or factory A/C box gets blocked off, like ours. Were not going to use the seal, more heat out of engine bay. Just a thought.

I don't have air conditioning. I'm getting hot air out of the drivers side vent while the passenger side is cool air. From looking at the seal, I strongly suspect its whats wrong.

That's the purpose of the hood/cowl seal, to keep out hot engine bay air out of cool air inlets.  I got this one.  Made in US is something I like.  This one fit great on my Cuda.  Definitely get one with clips installed.

I still have yet to see a good picture on this thread of a reproduction hood to cowl seal.
So my question is still in effect.

Wavy noodle type or not? Show me!

Is this a foamy type or an actual rubber type?

Just make sure you install it with the "U" shape opening facing forward.  I see so many installed backwards.  Dfrazz, your pic looks like opening is facing rearward?

Yea, even with a good cowl/hood seal you will get some hot air. I'm contemplating fabing up some aluminum plates to completely block any air/ water to enter the cowl.  They will be fashioned to fit under the screens, painted black to match the cowl.  It will keep hot engine air from heating up the lower cowl inside the car.

I had thought along the same lines but was going to cut some 1" or thicker Celotex insulation to fit and paint it black. But I decided I want some air flow.
