Just depends on what your after and want, the performance specs are laid out and clear cut. But it has to just come down to what you want. I've drove a couple 440 cars, both were stock 375 hp, they were tire shreaders, I've owned a few 383 cars and they perform great too and IMO the best all around big block, in other words, what you get for the $$ spent. But I've never owned a 440 until now and I'm still trying to get the project completed, the engine and 6pk set up has been done and waiting to go in place but there have been other issuse with parts that keep delaying my slow progress, lol. But if this built engine with a lot of performance internal goodies performs as expected it will be a car to be reconed with. It will not be economical to say the least, I figure my fines and conseguent insurance rates will require a part time job, lol. -j/k

Thanks Guys - Seems unanimous then.  So are all these 440s daily drivers or weekends only?  I had heard of a few probs with 440s that I was hoping to get answers to - excessive heat generation, difficult to keep in tune, very poor fuel economy, 383s rev more smoothly and are easier to drive - practical things if they are true???

practical and big block don't go together.or fuel economy.    that said.... 440  440  440  440    1970 or earlier if possible
Why are the only other cars on the road all in my rear view mirror?  Oh yeah cause I got a 440/6 pack

Thank you GOD for the "Go Fast Division"

I pull 11 mpg with my 440, idle in 90 degree heat all day and after a tune -up , I set it and forget it!
