Put a deposit down....tell me your honest opinion please
« on: August 19, 2015 - 06:14:57 AM »
http://www.autabuy.com/Vehicles/Details.cfm?VID=2766026&Year=1971&Make=PLYMOUTH&Model=CUDA

I slapped a deposit down on this car sight unseen. I'm thinking of having an inspector check it out just to be sure as well. Cars about 8 hours away from me and I hate to show up and find surprises. It is, after all, an east coast car and we never have luck with rust out here. But the car seems like a good deal and to me is perfect because I can fix it up a little here and there as I drive it. Dealer said it needs lower quarter work. Told me no rot on frame or floors or trunk. It was there accountants personal summer time driver. So it sounds like it runs and drives nicely. I'm kind of in love with the idea that it's not a full on project. I can dive it while I acquire parts for a year or two. Then bust into full blown restoration mode one winter. Tell me what you guys think. And if anyone lives near it, I'd be willing to throw some coin your way if you can get eyes on it and tell me what it looks like all around. Not that I don't trust the dealer, but if it's in good enough shape to justify the buy, I may just have it shipped instead of driving the whole way up there. Thanks fellas.

i plan to leave this world the same way i came into it...by accident.

The fender tag is from a 1974 Duster :smilielol:

As a decent driver, for $30K I think you might be able to do better. :dunno:

As an investment.....The whole "rebodied from a 70" really throws a wrench into any potential value. :2cents:

Did you see the vin tag? I see the registration has a Cuda 340 vin on it but is there a vin tag? The fender tag pictured doesn't even go to the car or even an e-body. My friend sold them a couple of cars a couple of years ago and they listed the cars on ebay before they even left my friends garage. The descriptions they gave weren't even close to the actual condition on either car.  I see lower quarters, door rot and the front lower fender dog legs.  Under hood looks surprising solid. It'd be nice to see the trunk and underside. And you understand its a re-body? I think it'd take the 8 hr ride for this one. I see it as a mediocre deal at best.

I agree the "rebodied from a 70" worries me. Remember our conversation about a certain AAR Cuda? Down the road you'll have the same kind of car. There is a better car out there I'd keep looking.

Damn. This is why I'm glad I asked first. You guys are much smarter at seeing things than I am. I think I'm gonna pass. Duster fender tag? That right there is shady enough. And then reading what crocha said, they sound like they're bull ****ters.

:iagree: The dealer is counting on the '71 year to pull someone into valuing more than their common sense will allows. If it was re-bodied and the quarters are bad what else will crop up?

HP_CUDA these are the guys that bought the 70 Cuda off my friend Steve it was the blue one with the blue & white interior you were looking at. I think they bought for like $20k and listed for $35k an hour later and forgot to mention it still needed to be finished.

RUN Forest RUN!!!!!

overpriced for what it is and the condition based on pics just screams "you are gonna waste a LOT more $$ on sheet metal repairs than you originally paid". wrong fender tag. lots of rot under the re-paint, what can't we see? '70 re-body - just lost more value.

look a couple threads below for dfrazz's '70 AAR Cuda clone ..... for $9K more you get a COMPLETELY redone car, all done and ready to drive, nothing to do to it. and talk about a head turner!

do yourself a favor and look at something else. we are all here to help if you need. hate seeing folks get burned.

I secured a car tonight.  From a member on here. Hopefully gping to get it this time next week.  So glad I said something here first about this one. I would've cried for months had I paid for this thing and it showed up with all kinds of demons I didn't realize.

Congrats!    :cooldancing: :clapping:

I hope it was a car you were looking for!  Provide pics and video of the delivery if you can, those kind of days don't happen very often.
