'71 Barracuda Insulation / Sound Deadener
« on: August 21, 2015 - 01:52:38 PM »
When I first purchased my car it only had a super thin sheet of some sort of heat insulation type material which was just laying on top of the floor and then the carpet was put down directly on top of it.

What is everyone using for insulation / sound deadener in their cars? Any pictures would be beneficial as well as far as where you are placing it.

I used Fatmat.

Haven't been on the road much for a real good test but seems to work really well so far.
Here is a couple links to my build thread. First one (page 4) is installing it on the firewall prior to installing the dash. Second one (Page 10) is the rest of the floor.

I'm going to do the doors and rear seat area here pretty soon.

I purchased two rolls from ebay.

Hope that helps.

Your funny Mark.  :smilielol: :2thumbs:

As Mark said (and I should have mentioned), Dynamat too. I think both brands are the most popular here. Not sure the difference, if any, in the two but both get great ratings.  :2thumbs:

I found this product on ebay, it's called Nolco. When I received it, it had a sample of dynamat with it for comparison. Couldn't see any difference in the two. It installed great and I've been driving the car for over a month now and I'm very happy with it. To be fair I've never used the others mentioned but I'm good with the one I have. It was WAAAAYYY CHEAPER. I did my whole car front to rear for under 100.00

I just got some Lizard Skin spray in sound control and ceramic insulation for my '72. Eager to give it a try.

I'm trying homemade lizard skin. I mixed ceramic micro spheres from amazon into 1 gallon of rustoleum, painting the floor from fire wall to back of rear seat. Some have used acrylic paint which is what lizard skin uses others have used an elastomeric like a butyl roof seal such as Kool seal. After this it will be a layer of frost king butyl duct wrap from Home Depot or carinsulation.com brand insulation not 100% set on that yet.
FYI google alternates to lizard skin. Jim
