The 4 speed is a big deal IMO. Both of my Challengers are 4 speeds and I'm 59.

Sheldon

I guess it depends on how you've treated your body... Both of my buddies will need knee/hip replacements in the future... If it's painful to drive after a few hours you stop driving it... When that happens you may as well sell it....

Through the years somehow I've only owned one 4spd, my Hemi Challenger, I'd have loved to have more but somehow I keep finding cars that have autos but have enough going for them that I enjoy them as they are... Nearly converted a clone 340 Challenger vert, I'd gathered all the pieces.. Then my FJ5 Challenger R/T vert came along & I sold the 340 vert clone to pay for the R/T....

I agree that once you don't drive it, it's time to sell. That's why I finally sold my Bee. Don't miss it one bit either. Who knows, I may one day get rid of the 4 speeds and go back to automatics just so I can stay in the hobby longer as a driver rather than a spectator.

You're probably right about the price though Aniauto. I just think these are weird times for muscle cars. The most desirable muscle cars have become investments and don't get driven much. The less desirable Low end cars are being turned into tribute/clone cars because that's the only affordable option for most people who still want to drive fun muscle cars. I think it's easier to talk value on the high end and low end cars simply because they are changing hands regularly so there are comparable prices to look at. The ones in between like this are drying up.

I think back to my teenage years at all the 68 big block chargers I walked away from because I was absolutely certain that $1500 was too high. At the time, everyone said $1200 was the correct value and I agreed. I had the extra money but stuck to my guns and I spent years looking for the $1200 car that didn't exist. Can't help but laugh now that I cheated myself out of awesome cars because I was too cheap to throw down a little extra dough. Once I got past that and started buying what I liked, I discovered that the extra money I paid was a tiny fraction compared to what I'sink into it once I own it.

I hope you prove me wrong and flip it on EBay for closer to $15K....reason being is that it would be solid proof that the market is getting stronger which is a good thing, maybe not if you're looking to buy, but certainly if you're looking to sell. :2thumbs:

I agree with you that the lower end cars are harder to put a price on....location comes into play a lot too. :2cents:

Location must be a huge factor. I go to the giant Mopar only shows and I am amazed to see some of the things that sell for big money out here. A couple years back, I saw a guy buy a basket car for almost twice what I thought it was worth. I got to be friends with the buyer and a couple years after he bought it, he sold it off for a profit proving that my original estimate was way off. I'm in Southern California where everything is crazy inflated though.

A friend of mine used to flip cars a lot and once pointed out that folks will spend 10-15k for junk rather than pay 25k for a nicely restored version of the same car. Why? His theory was that 1) they wrongly believe they can restore it themselves for very little, 2) most people can raise 10-15k if they really want to, and 3) those few people with 25k plus really start to question if their interest in a muscle car is so strong that they will wipe out their savings to have it when jr. will be going to college soon. Not sure if he's 100% right but I think he was onto something. He used to find a flip 10 cars plus a year and turned a profit on all of them, some of which I would have ran from.

To tell you the truth, I'm kinda hoping I'm wrong and it doesn't sell. I'm really starting to dig the car. I pick it up on Thursday.

Beekeeper: is this an SE car? I sold a 1970 SE 383 4-spd about 8 years ago   :swear:    and I got 13k. It wasn't as rusty but it wasn't running at the time either. I wish I had another one of those cars!

It's not an SE. It's fairly low optioned really. Just the buckets and console in an otherwise basic Challenger. I'm guessing someone was ordering a sleeper or they wanted RT performance for a few bucks cheaper.

And thanks 69Charger RT. I really like the car myself. Almost hoping it don't sell so I can dive into the metal repairs. Been examining it closely and I'm convinced I can do it myself.

Car just went up on eBay.

When I purchased my 70 Gran Coupe I was amazed how many people liked it.
I get awards at many car shows.
Just last weekend at Chesapeake City Md car show I was one of thirty that
got an award out of 700+ cars.

Trophyed 3 years Chryslers Nationals at Carlislw.

A beautiful car...I'd have a hard time taking my eyes off it and walking away.

Off to a good start....550 views in the first 20 hours, 30 people watching. One guy asked if I'd trade for a 2011 Ram truck. Another guy said he'd only consider it if I took a cashiers check.

I've been crawling all over that thing. It still has the original radiator. I've made a list of the sheet metal it needs. For the most part, the rails, rockers, supports, and doors are rock solid. I think it will be a good project for someone if they do the work themselves.
