4cyl Challenger
« on: August 24, 2015 - 09:00:13 AM »
I was junkyard hoping in Maine Saturday and found a junkyard with some Mopars. They had a late 70's Road Runner, Late 70's Charger some A Bodies and this Challenger.
Is this worth looking into? Not so much value wise but you just don't see these.
They claimed to have two 72's and a 73 Barracuda's but I did not see them. He said they where well picked over.

I doubt they have any value, but I always enjoyed them. Thought about buying one once, but it got away from me.

If it said Mitsubishi on the side would you be interested?   I'd hold out for something more interesting to blow time & $ on...  :2cents:

Somebody got a Mitsubishi Starion a while back as a driver, and it's basically the same platform. I think it was Goody. Anyway, they're nice handling cars, but I don't think it's worth the effort of doing the work that this one looks like it requires.

Best part on that car is the  "Challenger"  emblem.... It's the standard adhesive backed emblem used on E body Dodges...

I had one back in the day and loved it.  Got it when I first got married.  Got great gas mileage and ran well although not peppy at all.  Easy to work on I could change the oil without getting on the ground.  Simpler times.

I love oddity cars so this is pretty cool to me.

I second the Starion as an awesome car. A buddy's dad had one ages ago that he used as a track car and the few times we got to drive it on the street it was incredible. He sold it for his current track car a BMW 2002.

I'll admit that a '78 Challenger was my first car that I bought on my own. It was a neat little buggy. It had black and red with white plaid seats. The 2.6 Engine was nothing much to speak of. I really liked the car, but it didn't have AC, which is a major downer when back then I was going to work at 3 PM. I was soaked with sweat by the time I got there.   :eek7:

I have to tell you, those cars have no value now, but fond memories for me. Like the time I was driving back to my parents place and the fuel line to the carb decided it had had enough.    :22yikes:

They are not worthy of the name plate IMO!  :stirpot:   How embarrassing!  :-[ Not one of Mopars brighter moments!  :grinno:

My step dad bought one new.  I thought it was great!  So sporty!!  I couldnt wait to learn how to drive in it.  But he sold it for the turbo dodge lancer 4 door!  I was devistated.  Only long enough to learn what turbo power meant!  I still think the little challenger is neat.  If you can get one cheaply, it may just be kinda fun enough to make it worth it.

That is correct, Bigs. And pretty stout for a 4 banger.
