Can anyone tell me if the transmission cross member is the same regardless if the car is a small block / big block or a manual / automatic setup?

Yes and NO  :nono:

First off....Are we asking about the transmission cross member welded to the floor of the car or the removable transmission mount ?

Mr. Psycho is correct in saying the same set-up is used for both manual and automatic through-out the years, BUT they are NOT the same part through-out the years...

The 70 welded cross member is different from all other years, and the removable mount is the same for 70-71 but different from 73-74 as is the welded cross member in 73-74

That's okay....There are two styles 70-71 and 73-74....Doesn't matter if it's auto or standard.

Here are the applications and part numbers for the removable trans crossmembers. Each part number is correct for automatic or manual transmission
70 E-Body part # 2962074
71 E & B-Body built up to June part # 2962074
71 E & B-Body built after June part # 3583188
72 E & B-Body part # 3583188
73-74 E & B-Body part # 3642794

70-72 E-Body & 71-72 B-Body will interchange but 73 -74 will not interchange with a 70-72 E or 71-72 B
Hope this info helps with your search so you get the correct part
