70 Cuda 383 with Tremec TKO500 5 speed
What would need changed to put a 440 where a 383 came out ? I might have a chance to get one for a very fair price.
The 383 B wedge is shorter than the 440RB. So you really only have three things to sweat:
1. The exhaust - because depending what you have you may have clearance issues. Headers may need clearancing for steering box and/or steerping linkage because a taller deck surface means the exhaust flanges move up and out. If no headers the head pipes may be too short and will probably hit something (mine have in the past).
2. Intake fit. The RB intakes are wider for starters so you need a 440 intake. They are also going to be taller in the car given the taller deck height so the shaker height may need tweaking depending on the intake you choose.
3. The distributor is shorter in the B wedge vs the 440 - you need an RB distributor.
