71 barracuda gran coupe 1 of 16 # match 383 4bb 4 speed
« on: August 30, 2015 - 04:27:48 AM »
So I recently found a # match '71 383 4bb 4 speed gran coupe.  Car has original build sheet intact.  Light bar option, rallye wheels, rally dash option, posi rear.  71k miles.  Factory duel exhaust and has Cuda door panels.   What is something like this worth when done?    Thanks

I would agree, but i am biased.  It is no different than an N-code BS car mechanically, and has more to offer in my opinion. Save the Gran Coupes!

Super rare, although...not quite as desirable as a BS car IMHO.  People like the dual-scooped hoods (can a GC get that as an option?) and fender gills.

Still, snag it if you can if it's not a heap.  Can always put 'Cuda fenders on it and hood.

From what I have researched the scooped hood was available mid year, like around January of 71, give or take a bit. I agree, the real BS is more desirable than the GC, but having the extra frills makes up for it in my book.    Mine was built the first week of production, thus flat hood if I want to keep it correct. Finding good 71 non Cuda fenders has not been an easy task. I have the gilled fenders, but really want what was original for it.

Keep us tuned in on the car as your deal progresses.

The performance hood treatment and hood pins (Code J45 & J54) were both available as options.  I had an N-code GC with both, and have seen a 318 GC survivor with the performance hood.  The gills obviously were 1971 'cuda only.  The only performance difference between an N-code GC and an N-code 'cuda was  the cam; the GC got the standard 383 cam, and the 'cuda got the Magnum cam same as in the 440.

But, like I said, I'm biased!

So, when do we see pics of this beauty??!!

That "scooped hood" was available as an option from November, 1969 onward on any Barracuda or Gran Coupe, regardless of engine size.

This is a very interesting thread by far, especially to all us GC owners. I got my GC back in the 90's with very few parts, as it had been chosen for a donor car. It did come with the rally style hood and I had been told by someone it was supposed to be flat. Seeing and hearing the info that counters what I heard is great news!!!  The back tail light panel for what ever reason did not get the special key cover that was supposed to be on GC's, but maybe having an SPD of 802 is why it was missed. The line was not perfected yet, LOL.

Does yours have the rallye wheel option, light bar option, rallye pack gauge option, or Cuda door panels?   Mine has all of that... everything except the door panels is identified in the build sheet which I have intact ( it's quite surprising there's not a single tear in it)

Drew,
If your data plate has the code A62, then it was a factory rallye dash. The door panels were unique to Gran Coupe's with the "Gran Coupe" emblem, and the faux wood grain insert in the reveal portion of the panel; that is standard GC interior stuff.  GC seat patterns were alltogether different, and were year specific for Gran Coupes. Your headliner material is also different and unique for GC models, and is quite similar to modern headliner material.

You have a great car to start with; it is going to look fabulous when it is complete!  Do you have a pic of the data plate? A lot of us are just curious to see what options your ride was born with!
