Orange lights below bumper on front of 70 Challenger - should they be on whenever headlamps run???

Sorry for the long title but thought it would be easy for anyone searching this

My orange lights stay on whenever the headlamps are on

I pulled over to check my lights when a woman almost took me out in a roundabout (traffic circle)

Yep, they were on permanently

I kinda gave her the finger, but I guess she assumed I was turning coz she saw the Orange light showing on the front of my car, so she pulled into the roundabout

Yes they are running lights same as your side markers. They both come on at the same time though not one at a time blinking like a turn signal. On the headlight switch they come on the position just before the headlight detent.

Interesting side fact that I learned.  On my '68 Charger the parking/running lights in the front turn off when the headlights turn on.  Apparently up through '68 this was standard.

Interesting didn't know that either as I'm used to my 69 staying on all the time with the headlamps.

So the SIDE markers should be doing exactly whatever the front are doing?

To clarify, if the left is flashing ie as a turn indicator, the right will stay solid on as stunning light

Then vice versa

My Dad has just painted his 69 Coronet. I spose that car will work the same way ...?

Side markers stay on but don't blink.

Also, the rear taillights and side markers should duplicate the front in-sync.  So if the left turn indicator is blinking, both the front and rear turn indicators should be blinking at the same time with the right turn indicators front and rear staying solid.  All side marker lights (front and rear) should stay solid at all times.

I had a '67 Cutlass that did the same thing.  Parking lights went out with the headlights on.  I thought it was weird.

i have a 67 Vette and the front parking lights go out once the light switch is pulled out for the headlights.

I actually like it better this way.

Th running lights and headlights on at the same time is a bit confusing looking when approaching a car (from the front).



but it was probably a DOT/FED safety thing having all the lights on at the same time.  GOOD that came from this was the side marker lights - these are a good thing to have on a car.
