Question about Cuda packages and trim levels...
« on: August 31, 2015 - 09:44:53 PM »
I've been very curious lately...
Looking through pictures of various Cuda's i've noticed that most all of them have the same accesories...

Like... Fog lights, and hood pins seem to come together on a lot of cars.... or convert with the luggage rack.

I was wondering if anyone knew the different packages Chrysler offered back in the 70s... Really looking for 1970 to be specific.
I want to add a few things to my car and would like to find out how they were offered from the factory.

Thanks guys!

Just looking to learn as much as possible about these cars... thanks again!

ALL CUDA VIN numbers start with "BS" , 23 is hardtop, 27 is convertible.
BARRACUDA would be "BH"
Grand Coupe would be "BP"

And while in a sense I suppose BS/BH/BP are "packages" What they really are is separate models....

Back in the day you could order your car your way.... You want a right side mirror, there's a code for that... You don't want either mirror (not ordered very often) there was a code for that... What ever you wanted pretty much could be ordered... The better dealerships read their books & ordered cars just the way the customer wanted...

The "Package" deals started in the 80's.. The manufacturers realized they could group options to maximize profit & minimize labor costs & the days of cars built to order fell to the wayside...

Thanks for all the info guys! Good to know... What shows all the options? The fender tag? or build sheet? Not sure if I have mine, I have to check.
Where on the fender would the tag be?

On the left or drivers side apron or inner fender, above the shock tower.

The fender tag is found in the engine compartment on top of the driver's side inner panel near the battery.
The fender tag shows some of the major options while the broadcast sheet tells you everthing :2thumbs:

Robert has got one of the better links for you right there. Go to the library section and you can see the dealer books on your car - with all the options and option packages you could get. I reference this site just about on a daily basis - it is awesome.

Scott.

The fender tag shows the options that were body assembly specific (i.e. required specific body panels such as the A/C of non-A/C firewall for example, or body items like tinted glass, etc), but not attached items, like wheel type, or spare wheel type. Everything though, was on the build sheet.

Some "package" or model specific items could be ordered separately. Gran Coupes (VIN starts with BP) came standard with an overhead console and leather interior (vinyl was optional on Gran Coupes);  but they optionally could be ordered with the Premium leather interior package on a BS ('cuda) model.
