Bell housing B to E Body
« on: August 31, 2015 - 10:04:14 PM »
I found a local bell housing, casting number 2468372, and from what I found online, it's from a 383 B body.  I was curious if this would fit a 70 E body with a 440?  I have the A-833 Trans to pair with it.

Thanks in advance

IF wild is right then you will need a 130 tooth flywheel & I would recommend a 10.95" clutch not a 10.5" with that

A quick call to Wayne at Brewers  :worshippy and you'll get an answer to your questions...I would be concerned about the bearing retainer hole size, I know they changed through the years. :2cents:

yeah I may give them a call.  This is my first experience with bell housings on an older vehicle so I'm not sure.  Which bearing is the issue?  I believe my trans is set up for a B and e body, it has both of the shift mount positions.

Thanks for the info so far

the front brg retainer is the issue , it came in 3 sizes , 4.35 using the 307 brg  , 4.80 & 5.12 " diameters both using the larger 308 brg  , the 5.12" retainer can be easily machined down to 4.80 to fit the 4.80 belhousing but you are sunk if you have a 4,35 hole in the belhousing with either of the larger retainers diameters . If you have the 4.35 retainer on your trans there are adapter rings so you can use the 4.80 belhousing
