Can someone tell me about this body hole cover? 1971 Challenger
« on: September 03, 2015 - 09:08:47 PM »
Can someone please tell me what this metal cover/plug is? They are on a 1971 Challenger I am restoring. There are 2 of them under the rear seat being held in with a tab on the bottom and screw on the opposite side on top. Why does this body hole not just use a rubber plug? Were these holes special for something? Thank you

Now you went and done it, you got most of us stumped. LOL  I have always wondered that as well, but did not think of asking.  :dunno:  :clueless:

Welcome to the sight and the good question. :2thumbs:

My guess is (much like on another thread I posted) that they are either tooling alignment holes during forming process or even post process inspection holes. As in after forming they are used as a sight hole for alignment points.

Or just a Freeze plug. Lol

I was told once by a "LA Line worker" those holes received the metal plugs because they are directly above the resignators.  :2cents:
