May be I misread an previous post, but I think the o ring and seal was just replaced. You can buy a speedometer gear housing, but why bother if you're soon to change to a GPS speedometer?

I am confident the cup seal and o-ring were replaced  two years ago when the tranny was rebuilt. The car has been sitting up a lot since I have been building my house as it wasn't leaking before and now it is.
I ordered the new seals and will install. If they work fine, if not then as you said I will be capping off this port this winter.

Update:
I ordered the block-off plug 734406pk recommended as I am going to a gps speedo this winter anyway. I installed it as soon as it arrived (I now have my lift in the shop) and the leak around the plug is now dry as a bone.
But, now it is weeping around the pan gasket in a few places. Nothing as bad as before but still some. I plan to torque the pan gaskets to 25 ft. lb.s to see if this helps.

Leaks drive me nuts lol. I gave thought to a stopped up vent line. Since this is my first mopar I couldn't find the vent tube. Some research on the web showed me it is inside the top of the bellhousing. I won't be pulling the
trans apart to check that so I will try the pan gasket first.

Any additional thoughts would be appreciated.

It has been my experience that once a trans pan gasket starts to weep, tightening it makes it worse if you have cork gaskets.  If its not cork, try and tighten it a bit. Otherwise, you may have to go thru the mess of replacing the gasket.

If you suspect it's coming from the front inspection cover it could be the pump seal or the converter.

25 ft bs should rush any remains of the gasket , just snug + a little is lots

The gasket is not cork, so I assume it is some form of rubber product.

Chryco- You may be spot on about the 25 ft. lbs. of torque. I'll try and tighten it just a smidgen to see what happens. I fully expect it to continue leaking.W

bandt- it was weeping in a couple different places around the pan. There was no fluid above the gasket and there was evidence of fluid between the gasket extrusion and the pan.

I'll let you know what happens, stayed tuned. Thanks again for all the input. You guys are boss!

the factory pan bolt torque spec is 150 inch pounds (12.5 foot pounds)

I checked the pan bolts and they exceed the 150 in. pounds  so If it continues to week, I will be putting in a new gasket.

One additional question. I notice that when I first put the trans in reverse (when the motor is cold) there is a noise which sounds like the pump winning to me, is this normal? This goes away once the car has been driven a bit.

Also, when crusin thur the neighborhood and the speed of motor does not exceed past the shift point into 3rd the trans it will make a hard bump of a noise when it shifts. If your speed is so it shift on thru the point, no noise at all.

Any thoughts?
