1991 360 for my '72 Challenger?
« on: September 06, 2015 - 12:04:35 PM »
Hi all,

Another newbie question from me here! :)

Got a lead on a freshly rebuilt 1991 360 with a Weiand dual-plane intake, Edelbrock 750 carb,  high performance pistons etc. The seller don't know what cam's in it. The compression is around 10.5:1.

The price is pretty good considering where I'm located, Sweden :)

As far as I understand it, the swap from the 318 in my '72 Challenger should be pretty straight forward?
I plan to to use it with the 904 that's in it already. As long as I use the B&M flexplate this should work fine, right?

Apart from that I think I need a new motor mount on the driver's side and a car oil pan.

Anything else needed or am I on top of it?

Thanks in advance!

There is an issue with internal or external balancing, but maybe the flexplate takes care of that? I thought the weight was on the converter but I might be wrong. I don't know how both of your engines are balanced, I'm sure someone with that knowledge will jump in here, but you need to check that. I got a 340, forged crank, that was internally balanced. Other than that it should be an easy swap.

This should bolt in ,you need the engine mount ,  the B&M flex palte will fix the balance problem ,, you will need the car oil pan , you may have issues using the pulleys with a thicker damper , 318 exhaust manifold could be restrictive , the block is designed for a hyd roller cam so hopefully they used an upgraded hyd roller

can the cam be taken out and measured, or is there a stamp on it
to identify?

The cam was replaced when it was rebuilt. Dunno which brand it is but the specs are as follows according to the receipt:
Basic Operating RPM Range: 1,800-5,500
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 224
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 224
Duration at 050 inch Lift: 224 int./224 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration: 270
Advertised Exhaust Duration: 270
Advertised Duration: 270 int./270 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.470 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.470 in.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.470 int./0.470 exh.
Lobe Separation (degrees): 110

I'll check if I can find a stamp on it in order to find out what brand it is.

Can I ask what you paid for it in SEK? Reason I ask is because I'll probably wanna sell my 340, and I don't see many (any!) fore sale here. (PM in swedish if you want)

I will probably take out the cam to inspect it as well.

Any ideas on how to determine what cam's in it without pulling the engine apart? Supposedly it's a Comp cam.

We started tearing it down tonight and yes, it has the 308 heads. Everything looked fine but we couldn't determine what cam's in it.
The only markings on it said 070 693 and L5 on the other end.
I have no idea what that is, anyone that has an idea?
