A good thread of advice... I'm panning to do the same upgrade.. and use the Denso 1-wire alternator, along with installing a volt-gage and say good bye to the Alt gage.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!

I like the idea of running a wire from the alternator to the starter relay. Simple and quick. I'll try it.

Well, I ran a 10 gauge wire with fusible link from the alternator to the starter solenoid battery terminal. The ammeter needle is in the center now and the headlights are brighter. Volt meter still reads 14 volts with the motor running and 12 with the motor off.  Must be doing something good.

Yep, the current takes the easiet way now, direct from the alternator to the battery. The wires to the ampmeter is now both hooked up directly to the battery, you can leave it like that, or remove them, they can still melt or cause problems IF they get in contact with ground anywhere.
