Pulling both leaf springs at the same time
« on: September 11, 2015 - 01:30:24 PM »
I'm planning to pull both leaf springs to get them rebuilt.  Would it be ok to pull them at the same time and just leave the car and axle in place on jack stands?  What do I need to keep an eye out for if I do this?  I'm worried about ending up with any potential misalignment.

Any information will be greatly appreciated (as always).  Thanks.

misalignment...  :clueless:  you`ve got studs on the springs and holes in the rear where the springs attach.  should go back in the same position.

I pulled both mine at the same time to get them re-arched. Put a jack stand under the front of the tranny so it doesn't try to tip down. No problem putting it back together, tit on spring perch on axle makes positioning easy.

Great thanks! I'll pull them off this weekend so I can get them re-arched too.  Thanks.

What's it costing to have them re-arched? Might be worth just buying a new set... :2cents:

It's costing $375 but then I keep the same stock springs that came on the car from the factory and will look new.

When re-arching, if your doing it to raise above factory specs an inch or so is there a limit as to how much you can do and they still fasten back up ? I would think that the ends would become closer together and then not reach.

Sorry to sound negative but I've had two sets of springs re-arched and they both soon settled back to where they were.  I found it cheaper to buy new springs.  I recently replaced the springs (that had been re-arched) on my Challenger.  I bought them from ESPO for $220 plus shipping.  I had paid $320 for the re-arching.

Had a local spring guy redo mine , I put all the weight in the car that I wanted, gas/spare tire and the like. Then I measured out the four corners and figured were I wanted be be. Also added one middle leaf. They were right on the money (maybe 1/2" to 3/4" high and then settled). If I remember right about $175.00 for the pair (even painted them for me like a satin black).

He also used to do my race car springs and the guy was always on the money..

The guy who did my also added a leaf. He said to just re-arc the springs they would sag again.

The reason I'm deciding on rebuilding them is because 1) I keep my original springs, 2) it's cheaper than firmfeel or PST springs, 3) I get them back in one day, 4) they can actually set the height where I want, and 5) so many varying opinions on which springs to go with and different issues with them (it gets confusing which ones to buy).

I rearched my springs and had them add a leaf (only cost me about $150 for both). The back end probably went up 4 inches or more. A bit higher than I wanted. But it's been about a year since then and it's settled a little bit so I like where it sits now.
