Went down to the EG Car Auction yesterday as I wanted to see the 70 Hemi Cuda being auctioned. Had a chance to speak to the owner. Car was restored by RK Motors and purchased by the current owner in 2009 at Russo and Steele for $130K USD. Owner felt the car was worth $150-$160USD today, and set the reserve at $200K CDN. It failed to meet the reserve as the high bid was $150K CDN. From the outside that car was very nice, engine bay could use some detailing and there were numerous in-correct items. Owner did not seem to be a mopar guy and probably didn't care.
The Plum Crazy Challenger was a recently restored Hemi Clone, very nicely done. Owner lowered the reserve, much to the disappointment of his daughter and it sold for $67,500 CDN. Original 340 car.
Generally many cars did not sell as they failed to meet reserves. I guess guys are thinking if it doesn't sell here I can sell it for more in the US. The auctioneer mentioned more than a few times, "buy this car take it down to the US and double you're money!"
Surprised there weren't more US guys at these Canadian car auctions right now. Probably some buying opportunities especially in Alberta right now.
