Wierd tach problem....
« on: September 14, 2015 - 04:08:09 PM »
I'm trying to work the bugs out of my Cuda after finishing it last month. My tach will only run up to about 2100 rpm and doesn't go any higher.

It's one of those aftermarket tachs that fits in a standard e body gauge cluster. I bought it about 8 years ago when they first came out and haven't used it until now.

Any ideas????

I Have one of those in mine, I do like the way you mounted yours. but the other day I went to start my car, no spark! unhooked that tach and I had spark, it started and ran fine. I haven't messed with it sens, I will let you know how it turns out.                Mark :screwy:

Hey Mark, Yeah I get the feeling its the tach. The wiring is pretty simple.  :clueless: Not sure what could be wrong other than the tach itself!

What ignition are you using?  MSD or standard electronic ignition, points?

Ground is good. Through the firewall to the rear of engine.

I had similar problem with a rallye dash factory tach and the orange box. Sent the tach to Auto Instruments and when they checked my tach it worked and said the factory tach was not compatible with the Orange box. They rebuilt the electrics and the tach works. Auto Instruments said the rebuild will work with any ignition system.

2 years ago I had a rallye tach that had an internal short of some kind and prevented the engine from firing. I replaced it with an OER. Now that tach is  jumping all over the place.

Don't know, I believe it is one of those redline gauge tachs. It didn't say anything about cylinder select. But it's for an e body so I would think it should work with a Chrysler ignition.
