Flush mounted glass

I have seen several cars with what appears to be flush mounted glass (back and front windshields); anyone have any information about how this is done? For my Cuda I am planning to blacken the trim via powder coating or something to give it a more modern look but I have been wondering about the flush back window and windshield.

Mike, have a look at today's post by johns cuda shop, the 71 cuda build, he has just done what your asking about, basically double layer of tape to raise the glass, not sure what he did for the blackout on the glass

Anyone out there who has done this, I need some assistance. There appears to be a lot of different moldings available; need some advice on which one might be better.

Also need some advice on the Butyl tape thickness. I will measure the glass and channel but if someone has done this already I would appreciate some tips.

the bottom image looks like it fits around the glass edge, that might help hold it in place, but there will need to be a small edge of glass left with the tape or silicon

I agree, however having never done this I am looking for some guidance. That bottom one looks good and has some tape around the edge to keep it on, but I think you have to install the molding onto the glass before setting in place, so there will be no way to tell if the glass is sealing or not (at least that's what I am thinking).

I would have thought you would have still been able to see a good seal on the tape, a nice wet black look when looking at the outer 1/2" of glass etc

as far as thickness goes, I'd cut some rubber spacers to lay in the channel and just let the rear glass sit in there, add or subtract the rubber spacers (use plastic, wood, whatever) and once the height is set right so the glass is flush with the body, then that would be the finish tape thickness, from that I'm guessing you could work out what thickness to buy

Crash340, the point made about the lower pic was it appears that it would need to be installed on the glass prior. Then it would obstruct the "wet black look".

If I was to attempt I would look into using something like pic #2. But would look into also installing a U shaped channel with an internal lip that the top piece snaps into. Basically a 2 part system. Anybody out there do Pergo flooring? Look at how their thresholds snap in. That way the window is raised and sealed with the butyl but the clip and cover is just for the visual.

I also see issues with puckering on the sharper corners with "off the shelf" straight pieces being formed.

I agree with all points, however I need to figure out a game plan. I was really hoping someone who has done before would jump on and provide some direction.
