    I think my  alternator is busted, it olny out puts 13.3 volts when i rev the engine high. So Sadly the battery is now only 11.8 volts  :walkaway:
    On ideal the  alternator puts out 12.6 volts. And when I start the engine i need to rev it to 1500 rpm before the  alternators starts to work. It's a Powermaster 90amp. Cable wiring from YearOne all over the 'cuda. The  alternators has like top 5-4000 miles on it and is only and it use to put out 13.8 volts on ideal. Is Tuff Stuff  Alternators a better choice the Powermaster? As I guess I need a new  alternator  :stomp:

    Did some more measuring and found out I have 14.1 volt at the alternator, but only 13.3 at the battery at ideal with the headlights turn off. So I guess I have some faulty wires/ to much resistant in the wiering . Should I rune a positive cable directly from the battery to the alternator? How large should it be?

    I added a high quality #8 AWG wire with a fusible link from the Alt output to the starter relay. 

    If you want to do the "Full Bypass" of amp gauge this is the best explanation I've seen. Lot's of other good stuff too.

    I got rid of the amp gauge and ran a heavy wire from alternator to battery. Sounds like your alternator is putting out but can it keep up with any electrical non stock add on's? ( If you have any? )

    What size fusible link would you use, 8 AWG? I know how they work, but here in Norway, we only use fuses as fare as I know. So i just have to ask

    the question is why run a fuse between the alt & start realy you have battery voltage at both ends !

    8 gauge main wire (AWG= American Wire Gauge). #12 gauge fusable link. The fusible link is just a short piece of wire that is used like a fuse so it is a much smaller gauge wire. Your Mopar should have one already connected to the starter relay. looks like this.


    Member crackedback offers a bypass wire kit that is premade with #8 main wire and #12 fusible link if you want one stop shopping.

    Sounds like you have very high resistance in the charge line.   If the wiring is all stock, wire sizing and every connection in line creates a resistance point and induce voltage drop.   I just made 4 of the bypass assemblies for customers, they work well.

    I thought the same. Then a few years ago I saw a pic on this forum of an alternator O/P stud that came off the alternator body. Without the fuse, a fire or battery rupture would be very possible. I think Goody posted the pic.  :2cents:
