OEM fan clutch - but I need to remove the ink stamp
« on: September 30, 2015 - 11:47:49 AM »
Without naming names or pointing fingers etc. I have a beautiful restored OEM fan clutch for my 1970 Dodge Challenger restoration project but would like to have the pentastar and part # re-stamped. I need to remove the ink stamp that is there, has anyone done this before? I thought I might use paint thinner or mineral spirits. I would appreciate any expertise you have, the last thing I want to do is have a blurry or smudgy mess on the face of the fan clutch.

Thanks

If the gold face of the clutch is anodized metal then you can safely remove the ink with lacquer thinner. If the gold is painted you cannot use lacquer thinner as it will remove the paint. I would then try Varsol [regular paint thinner] . If the Varsol does not remove the ink you will have to repaint the gold and then re stamp.

I have used alcohol to remove permanent marker ink from plastic and metal in the past, it always worked for me without leaving any residue.
