Should i sell it for this price? Please help
« on: September 30, 2015 - 12:03:30 PM »
Hello my Cuda friends, I am from Mexico City, I own a 71 Cuda, for what I know this is the only 71 here in Mexico, if cudas are rare in USA imagine how rare is Down here,
The car came originally with a 318, it now have a freshly built 440 and 727, fender gills etc
A guy is offering me 32,000 usd, how do you guys feel the price? I spent a lot of money in parts and labour so I don't know if I should sell it for that price, so the question is, what is my car worth??
Thanks in advance

Nice car! I got the same steering wheel, how did you fit it on the black "crush can"?, my wheel don't have that boltpattern.

A big part of that is "What are you import laws and restrictions?" I'd check into that so you at least have some idea what you're facing when replacing it.

I'm no expert on prices, but my gut reaction to the above is that that may be a fair price in the US. That doesn't necessarily make it a fair price in Mexico. Depending on the difficulty of getting another car and getting it imported, then fixing it and fixing it up to your needs and wants, and given that, as you say, a 71 is going to be hard to come by in the local market, I feel like that's a low price. It sounds like you want a 71 Cuda, either this one or another one. If that's the case, I'd only sell this one if you're going to make some money on it, and you're certain you'll be able to replace it.

You also need to take into account the economy status in Mexico.  This is a lot of money for a car down there, and the number of potential buyers that can afford this care are far less than in America.

So, if you NEED to sell it and you finally found someone who can pay this price it might be a good time for you.  Otherwise, I would say keep it because it sounds like you are already having regrets.

Since 71's are somewhat the rage now I would say its a bit on the low side. But location might play a factor here but if you want to replace it in the future you might end up paying much more later.

How many Cuda's are there in Mexico in total, my guess is not much and unless you want to buy one in the US and import it down you will have to take that into consideration.

I think the price is fair. However if you think you may want another one later then I would not sell it.From my experience even if you found one cheaper, by the time you repaired a few things and paid purchase tax etc. on the new purchase you would be wishing you had kept your old one.

Thank You all for your answers, I am having a hard time deciding to sell or not to sell the car,
I love this car e body's are my favs and the 71 Cuda is the king, the only problem I have with this car is that it was original 318 car, the only reason I am considering selling it is to buy a real deal Cuda, I know for the money I won't be able to get a real 440 Cuda but maybe a 340 or 383 car, here in Mexico according to the registry there are only 4 1970 cudas/barracudas and only 2 1971 and one is mine, importing a car from the USA to Mexico City would cost me around 7500 usd in transportation and legalization fees, do you guys think i will be able to get a real deal Cuda for less than 40k?
Also what do you guys think my car is really worth?
I installed the 440 billboard yesterday

You ALREADY HAVE A GREAT CAR!!!!

I would look at it this way IT'S A 71 440 CUDA with a "G" vin code. When you stomp it to the floor can your butt tell the difference??? Can your buddy see the "G" vin code as you fly by at 70 mph??? Heck No!!!!

I thought I was going to sell my 71 'Cuda and after a couple b.s. deals decided it's not going anywhere. Even here in the states they just aren't out there in any better shape than the one I already own UNLESS I want to add about 30k to the money I could sell my car for. Trust me the cars at that price are not THAT much nicer than mine. I'm going to fix and make the one I have ,the one I WANT!!! So should you!!!

Great answer!!!!!!! Thank you very much, that is definitely a very good option, I just know if I sell this one I will have to put another 30 k to buy and bring another one, and like you said maybe in worst condition than mine, like you said the only thing it is not a Cuda is the vin, suspension, brakes and everything else have been upgraded to handle the 440, added fender gills and dual exhaust with rear valance, the 440 is a 71 block built by a very known Mopar shop here, the car came from the factory with console, floor shift, power brakes, power steering... I think if I sell this car it will have to be for a higher price, also taking in consideration when I bought the car 13 pesos bought a dollar now 17 pesos buy a dollar so it will be much more expensive to buy one now in America

I would say never ever sell that car if the reason is to get a BS Cuda.  Or at least wait till you can go get one first and then decide if you want to sell this...  IMO selling for a different VIN and putting down an extra 20-30K for that is fun if you have another 100K in the bank.
I`d say the offer is decent, but you`ll be sorry if you take it  :2cents:

I agree with the general opinion here. I think if you sell it you will regret it later and have to spend much more to get a decent quality car.
