Radio - No Sound
« on: September 30, 2015 - 06:27:27 PM »
I have a 73 Cuda.  My factory radio doesn't work.  When I turn it on it is getting power and lights up and the little green light goes on and off when I tune to a local station, but I am getting no sound.  The antenna is hooked up on both ends.  I checked the wiring and the rear speaker wires are connected. I haven't tackled the dash speaker yet.

I have only owned the car for a month and the previous owner said "he thought it was working."

Any suggestions?

Anyone rebuild these?

If the radio powers up and has no output, try connecting a set of jumper wires to a known good speaker to see if you have sound output.

Thanks for the advice and link.  I did notice that when I turn on the radio I can hear it "click" in the rear speakers.

Years ago I had my AM/FM fixed by a local electronics repair shop. Maybe you have a competent one in your area.

Thanks for the advice and link.  I did notice that when I turn on the radio I can hear it "click" in the rear speakers.

Test a set of speakers with a jumper wire first as suggested. THe click could be a wire grounding out. Plug 1 speaker in at a time and test, might be 1 speaker or wire causing issues for the whole system.

Happened to me, one of my rear speaker terminals was contacting the metal cage and was grounding out the entire system...

That's not an E Body radio and it won't fit properly with or without  an E body bezel...

I should have looked closer, you're right. The print in his ad really threw me.
