Quick intro - CAN/AUS new guy
« on: October 03, 2015 - 02:57:32 AM »
Recently purchased my 73 Barracuda and awaiting approval to ship from Canada to Australia. Any Queenslanders here that can point me to a reputable shop to get road worthy and any engineering approvals i.e shoulder strap seat belt in place of current lap belt once it lands in country?

Hey Clint,

I used a guy down near Logan City, he also has a 74 Cuda, he lent me his dealer plates to drive it to  his place, he did the mods, roadworthy, registered it all for me, a week later I went down, picked it up and drove it home fully registered in my name, good to go. Phil Harris of Car-Pliance. cost was $2975 which included twelve months rego, all the 5 seatbelts, you might be able to get cheaper if you look around, all you need is headlights and seatbelts

Blown Motor - Had been searching for the past couple of years online through the US and Canada. Found this one as a private sale North Vancouver Island BC.

Crash340 - Thanks for the heads up. Ill give them a ring once i get the VIA and have a date to drop it off to them.

With some luck the VIA will be given +/- 20th October and it starts is journey down under 5 days after that. My Birthday - Wedding Anniversary and Christmases for the next couple of years all wrapped up in one....!

Cheers,

Clint

Congrats on your purchase, enjoy the wait (longest 5 weeks of my life !) it'll be worth it in the end.  :2thumbs:
I sourced my 3 point seatbelts from Morris concepts in the U.S. shipped fairly promptly, but you have to pay extra for ADR approved belts though.
Welcome to the board.

Priesty,

I have put in an order for MOPAR seat-belts from YearOne and will have them shipped with the car. If you have run into issues and the local govt requires something specific can you forward a link and ill cancel my order and use the credit for some other MOPAR goodies.

Look forward to getting together with other MOPAR drivers and fans in QLD and Victoria when we visit in-laws.

Cheers,

Clint

Hi Clint,
You need to know if the belts comply with the "Australian design rules", I'm not sure what has to be changed to comply though. Perhaps ask Year one if they are ADR compliant belts. I was a little surprised that Morris concepts knew about the ADR rules but they do make compliant belts. Not sure what brand Greg (crash 340) has in his.

cheers....

There are various options for mounting the top mount, I chose to use all existing mounting points but, make sure for the top roof line mount, use a long dropper, I had to have mine changed from 200mm to 300mm,(their longest). I had to do this because the belt was riding high alongside of my neck and was very anoying. Its much better now but culd be lower to have it go over more my shoulder. Clint your pretty tall so it may not bother you as much but it may your passenger.
