Flex Plate Observation/Question

I just amazed that such a thin piece of metal transfers in excess of 500 HP.
Cheby flex plates are considerably larger and thicker......

Do these things ever fail?

They do fail, usually a crack around one of the TQ bolt holes. Then they make a banging sound like all hell breaking loose.  The B&M ones are much beefier than stock.

Hmmmm.....I'll have to take a look at the B&M units!

I'm really stunned they handle as much as they do!

Oh....I come from Chebies,  but not by choice!
Now that I have my Cuda I'm never going back!

I've always had a special place in my heart for the 318 and I'm building mine up right now to 350 - 375 HP.

But when I separated the engine from the trans I was a little surprised by the flex plate. .....

Never seen many mopars compared to ford and chevy breaking the flex plate but this may be due to I am in ford and chevy land.

That/s funny cause I've had/heard of a bunch.  The OE type with the open web, 5/16 bolt holes to converter., smallblock.    The MP one are solid, no web and the b&M better still.

Flex plates fail more often due to a misalignment of the engine/trans then transferring more power then the plate can handle...

Come to think of it, when I broke my OE open web style, One of the dowel pins was missing.  I added missing pin and went B&M

To me it makes sense that with smaller radius there would be less leverage to have the flex plate fail , I have seen a few crack but never seen one completely fail

Well....now that makes sense!
I didn't consider the diameters....less leverage.
