Nice car Jalaska! What are the names of the two shops you are considering for a restoration? Maybe someone here knows of those shops or has taken a car there before and can give some feedback from actual experience dealing with them or what they know about them.
A "restoration shop experience" topic would be a good thread to start up on this forum...

Thanks for all the good advise,  this whole thread started just by me asking what you guys thought a proper value of the car is.  Here in Alaska, its hard to figure out proper price point due to the fact that not many people have cars like these.  Also the ones that are here, are little trapped treasures that never see light it seems.  How I determined what I should pay for this car, was by picking up a haggerty price guide and doing my best on judging condition. 

Im wanting to get the restoration going, mostly because if I drive it, I know how I am,  It will never get done.  Second, rust cost lots of money.  I would like to get the car back to a quality, clean, properly sealed condition before any rust starts.  I do agree in shopping around for a shop is best.

As far as a completed value of the car, after restoration, not 100% sure where this would land.  I havent seen any Plum T/A 4spds completed for sale.  See other colors between 80-100k

As far as the pricing that I was quoted,  If you read what I posted, I said that the first shop said to commit up to 65k.  That puts 65k as the max.  The other shop on the east coast said 70-80k  Iknow I waont use a shop on the east coast though, since shipping the car from AK to east coast is really expensive.

Wasn't trying to start any problems, just dont understand why people wouldnt want to restore this car, instead they want to wait for larger problems to start before they get to it, which in turn, costs more to fix.  At least thats how Im seeing it. 

Hope this clears up what Im trying to say, and again thanks for the feedback

We all love your car so don't take us wrong. It's just that some of us are seasoned in the resto deal and want to make sure you understand that a $x car plus a $y resto does not unfortunately come up to a car valued at $x + $y in the end. We just do it because we love the cars and are willing to accept the loss.

I think also I was miss understood.  Like said before I just asked current value of car, I havent thought for a second about selling it, so trying to restore and make profit is pointless for me.  But with that said, the reason I asked, was to see what the value actual people thought it was worth was. Say that number is 50k and I paid that or more, then it would be a no brainer for me, just clean it up and roll with it,  But now knowing, since I kind of went on a wimb and hoped I didnt overpay, now I know I could be in the car at this point with restoration, 80-100k total, its got me thinking of the next steps.

What do you plan to do with the car if you put that much money into it? Will you drive it or lock it away? If it has some rust issues, take care of them and enjoy the car. They are a blast to drive. If I had $75K to $100K in mine, I would be very hesitant to take it out to cruises or shows and try to enjoy it. You have a desirable car that will only increase in value as it gets older and you give it proper care. Just my  :2cents:

My plan for the car would be a very occasinal driver.  Dont intend of driving it all over as I want to keep the mileage down.  As far as costs go, 75k isnt that much more than a new truck now days.  Id rather have it done now, then I wouldnt have to touch it the rest of my life.  That way also, since the majority of the time these care do increase in value,  if I did want to sell years down the rode, its done, ready to go.

Do as much or as little as you want and just enjoy it.  :2thumbs:
Been enjoying my car for 28 years now...
Divide my total investment by 28 and it comes out to be a much better return on investment than any other vehicle I've ever owned for annual operating cost...  :ylsuper:
Add in the fun factor and you just can't beat it for smiles per gallon.   :burnout:
